Egg Fest 2012

Things I like- Food, live music, beer and…more food.

This past weekend I went to an event that had it all.

In the heart of Broad Ripple the annual Egg Fest at Chef JJ’s was a big hit with our whole family. If you don’t know what Egg Fest is, it’s not to late to learn. Egg Fest was named for the grilling equipment used to prepare all the food, The Big Green Egg. Last Saturday, 50 or so culinary professionals and wannabees fired up the charcoal in their Green Eggs and started cooking.

When the festival opened at 11:00am there were all kinds of wonderful food smells in the air. After I paid my $25.00 (kids were free) I walked around to every booth available and sampled a variety of wonderful smoked foods. Some of my favorites were duck breast, french onion burgers, meatloaf, pancakes with rum syrup, shrimp and potatoes, sturgeon and even rice kris pie treats. My wife an father-in-law were there grilling up delicious pizzas as well. They made a dessert pizza with Nutella that was fantastic! All these foods were prepared on Green Eggs, and tasted amazing!

While I was enjoying the equivalent of the greatest all you can eat buffett of my life, my kids were bopping around between the food, live music and the two bounce houses having a great time themselves!

If you didn’t know about the event or missed it because it was sold out, don’t worry you have another chance. Coming up on July 14, there will be another Egg Fest at Germania Park in Cincinnati. I’m sure it will be similar to Broad Ripple’s Eg Fest, but contact the organizers before hand just to be sure. Buy your tickets for this one soon, before it sells out too!
