A New Chapter for Cincinnati’s Favorite Winter Tradition
Cincinnati’s downtown ice-skating tradition is getting a fresh new home! Beginning with the 2025–2026 winter season, the UC Health Ice Rink presented by Fifth Third Bank will officially open at Elm Street Plaza, taking the place of the longtime Fountain Square Ice Rink.
This exciting move marks the start of a new era for downtown Cincinnati’s winter celebrations — with more space to skate, new amenities to enjoy, and even more ways for families to embrace the holiday season.
Why the Move?
For nearly two decades, Fountain Square has been the go-to spot for outdoor skating, drawing families from across the region. But starting this winter, the rink will shift a few blocks south to Elm Street Plaza, right next to the Duke Energy Convention Center.
The relocation is part of the city’s larger effort to re-energize the Convention District and create a more spacious, modern, and family-friendly experience. The new rink will feature:
-
A larger skating surface to accommodate more skaters comfortably
-
A cozy WGU Warming Tent for guests to take a break and warm up
-
Fire pits, seating areas, and festive lighting for the perfect winter ambiance
-
Opportunities for private rentals, parties, and group events
What to Expect at Elm Street Plaza
The Elm Street Plaza Ice Rink will open in mid-November 2025 and operate through mid-February 2026, weather permitting.
-
Admission: $10 per person (includes skate rental)
-
Children 3 and under: Free with a paying adult
-
Location: Elm Street Plaza, next to the Duke Energy Convention Center
Families can look forward to themed skate nights, seasonal events, and a festive downtown atmosphere perfect for making holiday memories.
What’s Happening at Fountain Square?
Even though the rink is moving, Fountain Square won’t be quiet this winter. The space will transform into Winterhaus — a glass-enclosed tent featuring cozy hangouts, pop-up markets, and special events throughout the season.
Signature events like Light Up the Square, Downtown Dazzle, and the city’s holiday tree lighting will still take place at Fountain Square, keeping the area as lively and magical as ever.
A new “Winter Corridor” will connect Fountain Square to Elm Street Plaza along Fifth Street, with festive decorations and lights guiding visitors between the two holiday hubs.
Keeping the Tradition Alive
While the move marks a big change, the spirit of Cincinnati’s ice rink tradition remains the same — fun, family, and community. The new Elm Street Plaza rink will continue to be managed by 3CDC, ensuring the same high-quality, family-friendly programming that families have loved for years.
So lace up those skates, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and get ready to glide into a new era of winter fun in downtown Cincinnati!
