The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery presents the White-Allen Racetrack, in the Main Exhibition Hall. This exhibit including a fun, interactive racing track that will engage visitors of all ages. You don’t have to be a car enthusiast to love this exhibit!
Visitors can select a pre-assembled car for racing at the Pit Stop or Pick Your Parts and build a custom car. Various body styles and wheel sizes will be provided. You can race the cars at the Go Zone – this track can be configured in a variety of ways to make each race unique and exciting or create a personalized pinewood derby and race down a side-by-sided fixed track at the Vroom Derby station. Families will have hours of fun trying to make the fastest car.
“We all know that kids love to play with cars. This exhibition will allow visitors to play with cars while at the same time learning about physics,” noted Jill E. Krieg-Accrocco, Curator of Anthropology and Exhibitions at the Dayton Society of Natural History. “It will undoubtedly be a new favorite at the Boonshoft!”
Adults can race with the kiddos or sit back and cheer them on at the nearby bleachers. Extra gear, including megaphones and flags, will be provided to enhance the experience. For the STEM lovers, educational signage will be displayed throughout the exhibit, focusing on the physics of cars and racing! Be sure to check out our daily schedule for special programming in the exhibit. There will also be lots of interesting objects on display like a soapbox derby car (on loan from Dayton History), race paraphernalia, trophies, toy cars, and mechanics tools.
