Parents have to manage a delicate balance. Our lives become a push and pull of grown up time, baby time, friends time, work time etc. On top of all that, we’re supposed to find some “Me Time,” so that we don’t all collectively lose our minds. I’m one of the weird ones who have always found a long run or an hour or so exercising as the best escape. However, I’ve also come to find out that trying to take a squirmy baby, a stroller, and an 80 pound Lab on a run with me is proving to be nearly impossible unless the conditions are just right (those conditions being that there are no other dogs, runners, walkers, squirrels, birds, cars or the occasional leaf blowing in the wind that will make my dog go berserk. *eye roll*).
But what if we turned “Me Time” into “We Time?” There are places all over Cincinnati that will give you and your little one time to get a little exercise, get away from your day-to-day responsibilities and enjoy some time together.
Here are 5 Mommy + Me classes in Cincinnati you have to try (dads, too!):
1. KinderMusik
Age appropriate music classes that will progress your child’s mental and physical development through music education. “Sing, Dance and Learn” with the KinderMusik team at The Little Gym in Mason! Best for: age 5 and under.
2. Premier Tumbling and Dance Mommy + Me
Dress comfortably and kick off your shoes for 30 minutes of stretching, peer interaction and a focus on balance and coordination, and fun of course. Premier Tumbling and Dance offers ballet, dance and tumbling classes for toddlers as well! Best for: ages 18 months to 5 years.
3. Shine Yoga Baby + Me
Bring baby in for some “Chi Time” at Shine Yoga. Their Baby + Me classes focus on bonding with your little one, relieving post-natal stress and tension and connecting with other new parents. Best for: age 1 and under.
4. Baby Bees at Kids First Sports Center
This class focuses on the ABC’s: Attach. Bond. Connect. If you have a little one under 6 months, your 30-minute Baby Bees class is free! 6 months and up concentrates on social and physical developments, parent-child bonding activities and gross-motor development. Best for: ages 6 weeks – 2 years.
5. Baby Swim Classes Hubbard Family Swim School (pictured)
Here’s one that our little guy LOVED. Who doesn’t love a little time in the pool? Splash, play and teach your little one basic water safety skills while you get a little water time, too! Again, free for the really little ones 5 months and under.
About Emily:
Emily grew up just north of Cincinnati in Hamilton, OH and now lives in Western Hills with her husband Jim, their son James and their lunatic yellow lab, Rosey. Emily graduated from Xavier University (Go Muskies!), and is now a stay at home mom after working in marketing and promotions for local radio and TV stations.
Emily spends most of her free time visiting the manatees (James’ favorite) at the Cincinnati Zoo, shopping at local antique shops, or singing Beatles songs with James who typically just stares at her like she’s crazy. Emily hopes one day he’ll join in but for now she enjoys his giggles. She also enjoys photography and has quickly turned into a Pure Barre addict while trying to melt away the daily milkshakes she consumed while pregnant. So far it’s going well, but Skyline frequently gets in the way.
Emily loves to write and is looking forward to connecting with other Moms in Cincinnati while writing for Cincinnati Parent.
