Are you ready for spring? We sure are — and this weekend, it seems that spring is finally making an appearance here in Cincinnati! We perused our Online Calendar in search of some fantastic weekend activities sure to put a little spring in your step – and here’s what we came up with!
Check out our roundup of 8 Great Spring Activities this Weekend in Cincinnati:
Painted Pots Week at Farbarch-Werner Nature Preserve
Daily through April 28 (closed Sundays)
Celebrate spring by decorating a clay pot! Paint a pot and leave it for others to enjoy for no fee or pay a small fee to take it home with you. Pots will be hung in the trees throughout the park, where they will remain through the end of May. (Check out our recap of this fun event here.)
Zoo Blooms
Daily through April 30
Pink, purple, yellow, blue — every April, the Zoo transforms into a magnificent explosion of color! As one of only two accredited botanical gardens in Ohio, the Cincinnati Zoo offers one of the largest tulip displays in the Midwest. Dubbed “Tulip Mania,” Zoo Blooms also features more than one million daffodils, hyacinths, flowering trees, shrubs and other spring bulbs exploding with color.
Butterflies of Madagascar
Daily through June 17 at Krohn Conservatory
Madagascar has been called an island of rainbows and this beautiful show hopes to show you why! Krohn’s 2018 Butterfly Show is a must for Cincinnati families this spring. (Our review of this must-see exhibit is here.)
Winton Woods Cleanup
April 14 from 9 am-12 pm
Join the community cleanup that has been making a difference for more than 30 years! Bring a group, your family, your friends or work solo – removing the litter from around Winton Woods Lake requires all the hands we can get. Afterwards stick around to enjoy a grilled lunch and raffle giveaways. Free; register by April 13th.
Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals
April 13-15
Spring means one thing in Cincinnati: baseball! Head to GABP this weekend to see the Reds battle the Cardinals. Sunday is Family Day at the ballpark – so definitely check that out!
Families Create! Canstruction Candy Land Workshop
April 14 from 10 am-12 pm at the Weston Gallery
Spring means Earth Day, and you don’t get more eco-friendly than the Weston Gallery’s annual Canstruction exhibit. A feat of upcycling success, this exhibit uses canned goods to construct awesome buildings – then when it’s over, everything is donated to the Freestore Foodbank! The annual Families Create! Canstruction Candy Land Workshop is a kid-approved spin on the exhibit, letting youngsters construct their own edible creations. The workshop is $5 per child and pre-registration is required.
Third Sunday Funday at the Taft: Wacky Art
April 15 from 1-4 pm
This Sunday Funday is a silly spring celebration! You’ll solve art puzzles at the Art Cart, sculpt your own Dr. Seuss-inspired character to take home, and at 2 pm, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati on Tour will get you in a crazy mood with a performance of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat. Stop by the petting zoo at 3 pm and meet a kangaroo from Honey Hill Farm, too!
Mary Poppins Jr.
April 13-15 at the Taft Theatre
It’s the final show of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s 2017-18 season, and a must for families. In a time when we struggle to put our family first, Mary Poppins Jr. reminds us that with a little discipline – and a little magic – anything is possible. Don’t miss out on this “practically perfect” performance that will touch your heart and entertain every single member of your family.
