It’s the time of year when you are likely made aware of just how many toys reside in your house. During the holidays, your children receive new toys and if you’re anything like us, that means some of the ones they already have, must go. Children naturally grow out of toys and everyone also runs out of space, and there are many options throughout Dayton to repurpose these toys and gift them to children who will love and care for them. If your child receives duplicates of something, it’s also a great opportunity to regift the extra, new toys to those in need.

Dayton Children’s Hospital

Children admitted to Dayton Children’s and their families receive the finest medical treatment, emotional support and loving care available anywhere. But children have other special needs. Your gift of toys, books, games, and activities help brighten a child’s stay at Dayton Children’s. These gift items are used for birthday presents, end-of-treatment gifts and to stock our play and waiting areas.

*Due to infection control policy we cannot accept used stuffed animals or toys. Due to food allergies and food labeling requirements we are not able to accept donations of food or candy for patients.

For Love of Children (FLOC)

Christmas for Kids is one of our biggest fundraisers. We serve thousands of children Christmas joy. Children attending two local area schools, and those represented through Montgomery County Children’s Services are given the chance to have their own presents from Santa with your help. Every donation we receive helps a child that will go without in one way or another. Our biggest event for giving every year is our annual Christmas For Kids. We see many children from all around Dayton and we provide them with a new winter coat, gloves, and gifts for around their tree. Holiday giving is truly a magical time for children and that’s what we hope to provide every year with Christmas for Kids.

Hannah’s Treasure Chest

While many families are fortunate enough to provide for their babies, toddlers and children, many parents struggle in raising their children with sufficient resources. Hannah’s Treasure Chest responds to these needs by providing nonprofit and social service agencies in Butler, Greene, Montgomery, and Warren Counties with clothing, baby equipment, diapers, hygiene items, toys, books and other essential items for their clients. The assistance from Hannah’s Treasure Chest greatly enhances programs already provided to children in the Miami Valley. View our list of acceptable donation items here.

Michael’s House 

Michael’s House relies on the generous gifts provided by community members. Whether it is a financial gift or a donated teddy bear, each and every donation is valued and needed. Donations support the resources needed for professional staffing and ongoing training, forensic interview rooms and equipment, therapy resources, toys and activities for play areas and referral and educational material. Through your gifts, you will ensure that Michael’s House will fulfill its mission and prevent children from experiencing further trauma.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Dayton

The Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms serve nearly 4,000 families with critically ill or injured children in the hospital every year. We rely on donations to help support our families in their time of crisis. By providing items from our Wish List, you are helping to provide our guest families with a well stocked, clean, and happy “home” to retreat to after their long days at the hospital.

Amvets accepts small household items and clothes to benefit American veterans and their families. They are in need of clothing, shoes, bedding, curtains, houseware and glassware, linens, radios, appliances, etc. Amvets offers a pick-up program and will come to your house to retrieve your items.

Bicycles for All 

Donate your old bike at Bicycles for All, a nonprofit volunteer organization whose mission is to promote bicycling by offering affordable used bikes and accessories. Proceeds from the sale of used adult bikes support their Free Kids Bike Program where any child can pick out a bike to ride at home.  Bicycles for All offers affordable used bicycles and accessories. affordable bicycle repair and bicycle related education. Bicycles For All is a place to donate your old bike, pick up a used bike, learn how to maneuver in traffic, clean and fix your bike, learn how to fix a flat tire, and more. Proceeds from the sale of used adult bikes support our Free Kids Bike program where any child can pick out a bike to ride at home.

Goodwill

Goodwill accepts a variety of items and your donations help individuals in the community with job skills training and education. Multiple locations in the area make dropping by a Goodwill with a box or bag of clothes, household objects or other items you’re ready to part with easy to do.

Once Upon A Child

Once Upon A Child buys and sells gently used children’s clothing, shoes, toys, furniture and accessories. Clothing sizes range from preemie to youth 20 and include costumes, dancewear, swimwear, sleepwear, outerwear and dresswear.
