A beloved holiday tradition is returning to downtown Xenia, and the excitement is building. After decades of fond memories and years of absence, Greene County Parks & Trails is proudly bringing back Santa on the Courthouse Lawn, reviving a piece of local history and holiday magic. The event invites families to once again experience an iconic community celebration in the heart of Greene County, right on the lawn of the historic courthouse.
Originally beginning in the 1950s, Santa’s seasonal stop at the courthouse lawn was a defining moment of the holidays for generations of local families. Children would line up to meet Santa in his cozy house, bubbling with excitement as they shared their Christmas wishes surrounded by twinkle lights and the charm of a classic small-town Christmas. Though the tradition eventually faded, it’s finally making a long-awaited and heartfelt return.
The revived event stays true to its roots, rekindling the warmth and nostalgia residents remember, while introducing a new generation to the magic of the season. Families can visit with Santa, soak in the festive atmosphere of downtown Xenia, and receive a commemorative gift while supplies last. Greene County Parks & Trails has carefully restored this holiday experience so that the spirit of the original tradition lives on, creating fresh memories that families will carry with them for years to come.

The celebration officially kicks off on December 5th from 5-9 PM, followed by additional evenings on December 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th from 6-8 PM. Greene County Parks & Trails invites the community to bundle up, gather downtown, and be part of a heartwarming hometown celebration that reconnects past and present. With joy, nostalgia, and community at its heart, Santa on the Courthouse Lawn is more than an event, it’s a renewal of tradition!
