A Night Out with Rapunzel’s Hairy Fairy Tale at the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

It’s true, one person can’t do it all, but two can!

Opening night for a couple of newbie The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati show-goers was a hilariously adorable glimpse into the fun the theater offers.

Simply walking into the auditorium filled with past show’s costumes and props was enough to excite a five year old’s theater passion.

Rapunzel’s Hairy Fairy Tale was nothing short of affordable, entertaining, family fun! Even parents can get into this one with the few pieces of older, clean humor. And there is just the right amount of music and lighting visuals to provide a well-rounded sensory experience for the kiddos.

Two actors transform themselves into six characters who help plot the escape of Rapunzel from her stepmother, Lady Zaza’s, wicked ways. An attempt to thwart the long-locked Rapunzel from becoming Queen is easily challenged by Knight Roderick and hairstylist Edgar who team up with the hilariously hungry and achy Forest Woman. Without the wise counsel of Socrates the dragon, Rapunzel’s new kingdom and most importantly, new hair, would have been lost in the dark, dank, dismal, dreary forest *queue full moon howl* forever!

If you’re like me and concerned your young child may not have proper theater etiquette, please don’t be. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is meant to be a welcoming, learning experience to fuel the passion of theater from a young age. Light chit-chat and restless legs are well accepted! Rapunzel’s Hairy Fairy Tale is timed perfectly to be quick enough for young attention spans and ends with a Q&A from the two actors in the show!

Safety is extremely well measured at the theater. You’re greeted with a temperature check and optional hand sanitizer throughout the building. Everything is touchless, so tickets and programs are not to be found. Distancing is encouraged through floor stickers and roped paths. Once into the main stage, seats are tactfully tied with purple ribbon to dictate six feet distancing. After seating, you’re directed to a QR code with a contact tracing form in case of Covid-19 exposure. Safe, family fun has become their priority.

About Rebecca:

An adventurous Mama and Preschool Teacher, Rebecca grew up far East of Cincinnati in rural Ohio. She made her way to the city through church where she credits her love for volunteering with finding her husband and growing her faith.
Rebecca has resided from West to East; Bridgetown to West Chester, Anderson to Miami Township. She has a love for anything outdoorsy. You’ll find her kayaking on the Little Miami, camping at any state park and fishing all of the little lakes in between.
She’s rarely seen without her daughter who affectionately is an adventurer, too. The dynamic duo will never pass up on good BBQ, a new activity and sharing their love for Cincinnati with others.
