Adopt-A-Park with MetroParks

This Saturday, MetroParks is set to host its highly anticipated Adopt-A-Park event, where hundreds of volunteers from diverse backgrounds and accessibility levels will come together to tackle 22 projects spread across 16 different MetroParks locations. This annual day of service not only fosters a sense of community but also aims to improve the environment and enhance the natural beauty of the region.

The projects planned for the day hosts a wide range of activities, including litter pick-up, invasive species removal, tree planting, garden maintenance, and more. These efforts will not only contribute to the cleanliness and preservation of the parks but also have a positive impact on the overall ecosystem.

Jenny Hymans, MetroParks’ Volunteer Services Manager, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, noting that it presents the perfect opportunity for individuals and families to embrace the arrival of spring by spending a day in the great outdoors while giving back to the environment. The event welcomes volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity in the preservation and enhancement of these natural spaces.

The positive impact of the Adopt-A-Park initiative is evident from its previous successes. In 2023, a whopping 252 pounds of litter were cleared from greenspaces and parks across the area. Additionally, the collection and diversion of 100 pounds of recycled materials from the landfill showcased the community’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Adopt-A-Park event will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are encouraged to gather at multiple MetroParks locations, including RiverScape MetroPark, Wesleyan MetroPark, Possum Creek MetroPark, and Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark. By spreading the projects across various locations, the organizers aim to optimize the impact of the event.
