Barbie: You Can Be Anything

Since 1959, Barbie has been inspiring girls that they can be anything. From firefighters to judges to doctors, there isn’t a glass plastic ceiling Barbie hasn’t broken. Next year, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is partnering with Mattel on an all-new Barbie exhibit dedicated to inspiring and nurturing the limitless potential in every girl.

Opening May 2020, Barbie: You Can Be Anything celebrates six decades of girl power. From career dolls to real-world role models, Barbie has been inspiring girls since 1959.

Next year, The Children’s Museum is partnering with Mattel to celebrate 60 years of Barbie. The exhibit will showcase the iconic Barbie doll and encourage the kind of imaginative play that teaches kids that no matter our gender, ethnicity or background, we can all make the world a better place by doing work that excites us, challenges us and brings us fulfillment.

Exhibit highlights include:

  • Various Barbie dolls from 1959 to today;
  • The story behind how Ruth Handler created the iconic Barbie Doll;
  • 15 different careers to explore, where kids can learn about Barbie’s 200+ careers;
  • Info on the powerful women throughout history who have broken down career barriers for women

Barbie: You Can Be Anything isn’t the only exciting exhibit to come to The Children’s Museum in 2020. Opening February 8, The Pigeon and Pals! is an exuberant celebration of all things Mo Willems.

Opening in May 2020, celebrate Barbie’s legacy at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, while experiencing activities that inspire limitless potential. For more information, visit childrensmuseum.org.
