BLINK Cincinnati 2026: A Free Festival of Light and Art

BLINK Cincinnati 2026 returns Thursday, Oct. 8, through Sunday, Oct. 11, turning more than 30 blocks of the city’s urban core into a free, walkable light and art show. Organizers describe it as the nation’s largest public art festival, with projection mapping, murals and light installations spread from Findlay Market in Cincinnati to Covington in Northern Kentucky.

The festival runs from 7 to 11 p.m. each night, and no ticket is required. For families across Southwest Ohio, that makes it a low-cost evening downtown, about an hour’s drive from Dayton. New this year is a larger opening celebration on Oct. 8 that starts at 4 p.m., hours before the lights come on.

Most of BLINK happens outdoors and on foot, so planning comes down to two decisions: which neighborhood to start in and where to park.

How BLINK Cincinnati 2026 Works

Most displays run three to eight minutes on a continuous loop, according to the festival’s FAQ page, so there is no showtime to catch. With a few exceptions, each night features the same installations. Organizers recommend picking one or two zones per visit and coming back on another night instead of trying to cover all 80-plus installations at once.

City streets inside the festival footprint are closed to cars. On the Cincinnati side, organizers say the streetcar can be used to hop between stops, and that riding it is free.

Organizers divide BLINK into neighborhood zones, including:

  • Findlay Market: The northern edge of the urban core, centered on the city’s oldest continuously operated public market.
  • Over-the-Rhine: A neighborhood of 19th-century buildings, restaurants and arts venues, and the home of Music Hall.
  • Fountain District: Downtown around Fountain Square.
  • The Banks: The riverfront between downtown and the Ohio River, with nightly drone shows listed in the accessibility guide.
  • Covington: Across the river in Northern Kentucky, including the MainStrasse and riverfront areas, with its own nightly drone show.

The lineup includes work by dozens of muralists, projection artists and light installation studios. The full list is on the Art and Artists page.

Ready. Set. BLINK! Opening Night

The opening celebration runs Thursday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Central Parkway between Liberty Street and West 14th Street, with TQL Stadium in the West End as the backdrop. Programming includes live music from local DJs and national performers, interactive art installations, food trucks and beverage booths.

For kids, the notable piece is the Light Art Creation Stations, where attendees can make wearable light art to carry into the festival. At sundown, around 7 p.m., a “Flip the Switch” moment launches a light and drone show that organizers say will include pyrotechnics.

First Financial Bank is also running the Turn the Lights On Contest for children 12 and under. Kids can pick up an official coloring sheet at participating First Financial Banking Centers and select community locations around Greater Cincinnati, or download and print one from the BLINK website.

Completed entries must be returned in person to a participating First Financial Banking Center by Sept. 26. That date is a Saturday, so check the branch’s hours before making the trip. Representatives from BLINK and First Financial will judge entries on creativity, originality and overall presentation. One grand prize winner will be invited, along with a parent or legal guardian, to take part in Ready. Set. BLINK! on Oct. 8, and will help officially launch the festival that night.

Parking near the opening night footprint includes the Findlay Market North Garage, the Washington Park Garage and the Memorial Hall surface lot.

Good to Know Before You Go

Parking and Transit

Garages outside the festival footprint stay open at event pricing. BLINK is again partnering with LAZ Parking on reserved spaces at select locations. Passes are tied to a specific location, and staying past the reservation means extra charges. Organizers also list a partnership with METRO and TANK for getting downtown without a car.

Maps

Organizers suggest downloading the printable maps to a phone before heading out and using the dynamic map while walking. Check for the updated version before relying on it.

Food and Payment

Food and drinks, including beer, wine and liquor, will be sold in multiple locations. Beverage stands take cash and cards, but some food vendors may be cash only, so a few bills are worth carrying. Public restrooms will be open throughout the footprint. Inside Over-the-Rhine, the Music Hall Ballroom plans free live music on its 1927 Mighty Wurlitzer organ from 7 to 10 p.m. nightly, with restrooms and concessions available.

Lights, Sound and Accessibility

Some installations use flashing lights or loud, pulsing sound. Organizers say signs will mark those pieces as visitors approach, and the maps note them in advance, which helps for kids with sensory sensitivities. BLINK also plans accessible routes, escorts in crowded areas and accessible drop-off points for vehicles with a government-issued placard or plate. Questions during the festival can be texted to 844-556-6998 with the word “BLINK,” staffed from 6 to 11 p.m.

Pets

Trained service animals are welcome. Organizers ask that all other pets stay home because of the crowds.

Because admission is free, BLINK can anchor an inexpensive weekend. For more ideas, see our list of free things to do in Cincinnati and our roundup of things to do in Southwest Ohio with kids.
