Blue Manatee is reopening April 2!

Breaking news: Blue Manatee is reopening April 2!

After a four-month hiatus following a nail-biting will-they-won’t-they search for a new owner, the beloved Oakley bookstore is reopening this April as the Blue Manatee Literacy Project. Here’s what you can expect:

Story times, author events and activities

The Blue Manatee Literacy Project store will reopen in Oakley this spring to provide story times,
interactive storytelling, author visits and events and great books. Opening week is kicking off with visits from beloved authors Will Hillenbrand (April 2 at 10 am) Loren Long (April 6 at 11 am) Lucy May (April 3 at 10 am) and Kevin Necessary (April 3 at 10 am).

Same space, same mascot

A few years ago, Blue Manatee relocated to 3094 Madison Road — and Blue Manatee Literacy Project will occupy the same space, with the same “floaty potato” mascot.

A new mission

The Blue Manatee Literacy Project is a store with a mission. With a twist on the traditional “1 for 1” donation model, BMLP will not only match each book purchased in the store with a new book for an at-risk Cincinnati student, that book will be age-and level appropriate, delivered as part of a Curated Literacy program where instruction, mentoring and encouragement comes with every book. Simply put, all operational proceeds and energy directed toward the Curated Literacy mission – Blue Manatee Literacy Project will operate as a nonprofit.

We are thrilled to welcome Blue Manatee Literacy Project to the community! For more information and to sign up for the Blue Manatee Literacy Project newsletter, visit their new website at https://www.bluemanatee.org.
