Butterflies of Bali at the Krohn Conservatory

Plant lovers unite! Krohn Conservatory has officially reopened to the public with deep, fresh breaths of botanicals and butterflies!

The reopening comes with a four month Butterfly Show, much longer than any of years past.

The 25th Anniversary Butterflies of Bali runs until September 6, 2021 with timed ticketing!

Open daily from 10a-8p, the extended hours allow for a larger audience with safe capacities. Tickets in one hour increments are required for entry and are only available online.

The show room is limited to 40 people at a time, which served no barrier to us as we explored the entire conservatory. We never felt overcrowded and had plenty of room to safely move about the butterfly show and floral rooms.

Temperature checks and masks are required for ages 6 and up as safety is the top priority for conservatory guests and volunteers. Frequent touch points are sanitized often and same day return visits are not allowed once you’ve exited the show.

Krohn Conservatory is a wonderful place to explore with children and join in on the excitement of fluttering butterflies! We were lucky to have experienced the keepers releasing new butterflies and the volunteers were happy to share lots of fun facts at the exploration station.

The butterflies were not shy as hundreds flew all around us, throughout topiaries and statues. Each attendee is given a scented card to entice butterflies to land on/near and boy do they take advantage of those cards!

On the way out, a peek in the butterfly nursery is a fun glimpse into the life cycle of eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis and butterflies. Hundreds of different color cocoons hang in dry tanks, patiently waiting on the transformation of our beautiful butterflies of Bali.

Along with timed ticketing, there will be six Monday Photography Nights and four Family Fridays with crafts and activities. We highly recommend the family Friends of Krohn membership as it supports the conservatory and covers an entire year of visits!

If your teen has time to spare, the extension of the show has increased the need for volunteers! Ages 14+ can flutter into an important role of gate keeper, handing out cards, catch butterflies (if needed) and more.

Krohn Conservatory is a Cincinnati staple and personally one of my favorite places in the city to visit. Although masked, the humid botanicals breathe life into you as you escape into a world of tropical scents and sights.
