Butterflies of the Nile

An ancient Egyptian garden fills the rotating showroom at Krohn Conservatory during Butterflies of the Nile. With a large lotus pond as the focal point, butterflies of all colors dip into the pond mid-flight for a quick drink while others rest on juicy fruit. The Butterflies of the Nile require timed reservations through June 19, 2022.

Masks are no longer required per CDC guidelines but all guests, including Friends of Krohn pass holders, must reserve a ticket for the show. Capacity for Butterflies of the Nile is set at 100 guests per hour to encourage distancing throughout the entire conservatory, including the Fern, Palm and Orchid houses. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door.

The 2022 Nile butterflies bring along bright pops of purple, yellow, red and blue florals. With tall trees and grasses, butterflies are in full flight all around you. Fluttering from flower to flower, drinking nectar before resting on your shoulder, the Nile butterflies float gracefully through the room. Inspiration for the Butterflies of the Nile comes straight from garden depictions in tombs and temples in Egypt.

When visiting Butterflies of the Nile, plan your outfits ahead of time! The butterflies love bright pops of color and are more likely to land on you with bright blues, pinks and reds. Scented cards are distributed to encourage safe landing and the least amount of handling by humans. Encourage your kiddos to look, don’t touch and be still! The butterflies love a calm kiddo, always looking for a safe place to rest.

Cincinnati Parks and Krohn Conservatory have impressively designed the Egyptian-inspired showroom for Butterflies of the Nile to be one of the most accessible shows in past years. The wide-open floor plan mimics those of an authentic Egyptian garden, with plenty of space to navigate the room. The perimeter of the garden provides brick benches to sit and fully immerse yourself in butterfly flight.
