Does CinDay Academy offer before/after school care and or afterschool activities?

Does CinDay Academy have a homework policy?
CinDay does not believe that more busy work equates to deeper level learning, nor is it the best use of a student’s time. We are mastery-based, meaning when a student masters a concept, he or she moves on to the next challenge versus plodding through meaningless homework covering content he or she already knows just because it was assigned to the whole class. On the contrary, we prefer our students to complete most of their work in the classroom while the teacher is with them to guide and challenge their work. This allows students to have plenty of time for extra curricular and family activities, without becoming over scheduled, which research shows is so important for the health of the whole child. CinDay is also a strong believer in the recent sleep studies showing that students with heavy homework loads are missing essential sleep hours which compounds stress, anxiety and depression issues.
Does CinDay Academy offer support for students with special needs?
Our special education department is limited as we are not a top-heavy or admin-heavy staff being a small school. We are very invested in our classroom teachers first and foremost, and within that setting, academically challenged students have the opportunity to receive accommodations as needed with every lesson. Helping struggling students find success within the contained classrooms is very important to us to allow all of our students to feel included with their peers.
What specialty classes / extracurricular activities does CinDay Academy offer (gym, art, language, sports etc.)?
In addition to weekly art, gym, and music classes, all students also receive Spanish instruction beginning at Kindergarten. Our regular curriculum follows the Project Based Learning methodology, which immerses students in a topic using field trips, guest speakers, meaningful community service tasks, researching, building and innovating. We have weekly EXTRA classes on Friday which are enhanced skill-based classes where students can “kick the tires” on a new hobby with an expert, such as photography, sewing, tennis, and cooking, just to name a few. A popular weekly assembly, called Spotlight, provides character education and showcases our students’ own talents while celebrating their good character choices with Spotlight Awards. At Spotlight, students are given many opportunities through the years to develop their public speaking and presenting skills. Our older students take part in job shadows, career days, and internships. The CinDay staff also coordinates on campus job opportunities and College Credit Plus classes. In addition, high school students participate in clubs, sports and extracurriculars offered within their home district.
What are CinDay Academy ’s safety policies?
Being a small private school, our staff knows and recognizes the parents and is very aware when an unknown stranger is on our campus. All 4 of our buildings are fitted with constantly monitored security cameras and doors that are locked at all times. CinDay staff are screened through BCI; and safety drills are practiced monthly.
