Discover a Whole New World with Broadway in Cincinnati’s Disney’s Aladdin

Are you wishing for family entertainment that thrills the senses with comedy, magic and music? Then discover a whole new world with Broadway in Cincinnati’s Disney’s Aladdin. This fantastic musical production is playing now until June 10th at The Aronoff Center for the Arts.

Disney’s Aladdin, as presented by Broadway in Cincinnati, is a joyful and magical theatrical production. Based on the beloved animated film, the audience is whisked away to the mysterious and enchanted city of Agrabah. With colorful sets, dramatic lighting and amazingly intricate costumes, the story of Aladdin and the magic lamp comes to life. Plus, the brilliant acting and detailed choreography is extremely entertaining throughout the show.

This musical presents the timeless tale of Aladdin, a poor boy, who falls for the smart and beautiful Princess Jasmine. After striking a deal for riches with the evil Jafar, Aladdin finds himself trapped in the Cave of Wonders with the magic lamp, a flamboyant genie and three wishes. They break free of the cave and Aladdin uses his first wish to become a prince with the hope of marrying Princess Jasmine. The story continues with lots of adventure, a magic carpet ride and defeating Jafar and his side-kick. But in the end, Aladdin realizes that no matter the wishes, by being yourself are you truly free. (Of course, he also gets the girl!)

Through the years, my family has seen some remarkable shows at the Aronoff Center. And although I am a Disney Mom (a little bias), my husband and I both agreed this was the best production presented by Broadway In Cincinnati. We were engaged the entire time by the storyline, the brilliant comedy and overall stage presence of the actors and sets.

Plus, we were introduced to new characters and songs. Aladdin’s three boyhood friends were enjoyable comic relief and Iago was no longer a parrot but Jafar’s trusted human assistant. Also, the audience not only enjoy classic songs from the movie including “A Whole New World” and “A Friend Like Me”, we enjoyed new musical compositions sure to be fan favorites by Alan Menken and Chad Beguelin.

Finally, there were very specific moment/genie that made this show so special for my family and me. The entire magic carpet scene, one word….. WOW!! Aladdin and Jasmine are flying above the stage in a sea of stars and singing a “Whole New World” gave me goosebumps…this moment in the production was pure magic. It’s as if I were a child again and the awe struck feelings of watching Aladdin for the first time almost 26 years ago.

And finally, I discuss the best for last… The Genie! Michael James Scott’s interpretation of the Genie was hilarious. The entire audience was laughing out loud, and we eagerly awaited each line. He gave the role his own zeal, which included today’s pop culture and of course, a few Cincinnati mentions. But he also  kept with traditional moments of the great Robin Williams, who gave the genie life. And for that, Aladdin will forever be in our hearts.

Aladdin is fun for the entire family (it’s recommended kids be at least 6) the and runs for two hours and thirty minutes including an intermission. Don’t miss out on this fabulous production! Contact the Aronoff Center for tickets.
