Flotation at Gravity Spa

1000 pounds of epsom salts, 10 inches of water, darkness, and silence are the perfect recipe to recharge your body, mind, and spirit.
Our Associate Publisher, Hannah Mohler, took part in her first float at Gravity Spa in Beavercreek and detailed the experience below.

Self-Care can be achieved in many different ways – you may prefer a nice bubble bath at the end of a long day or a 3-mile run to burn off extra energy. As parents, we cannot feel selfish or guilty for prioritizing our mental, physical and spiritual health. The team at Gravity Spa wholeheartedly believes that self-care is essential and they offer several services to help each individual achieve peace while within their walls.

I was so excited to try out a Float session at Gravity Spa! I had heard about the opportunity and had also seen photos online but I honestly had no idea how my body or my mind would respond to this type of relaxation in isolation.  At Gravity Spa, floats are available starting at 60 minutes and can be reserved for multiple hours at a time. For my first time, I decided to go with a 60-minute float. The team at Gravity Spa was super professional, walking me through exactly what to expect when I arrived.

Everything that you need pre, during and post float is provided for you in your personal room – including a full shower! Before entering the floatation tank, I showered and cleaned my body with the body wash provided by the spa. This shower helps to remove any lotions, deodorants, etc. that may be on your skin. The team also recommends that you use ear plugs in the tank so I made sure to pop those in before entering the tank.

To be honest, the tank itself was a bit alarming when I first saw it. I don’t consider myself claustrophobic but I was NOT ready to enter the tank and close the door behind me. After about 10 minutes in the tank I did change my mind and I am so happy that I did. The biggest change between the tank door being opened and closed is the temperature within the tank itself. Once the door closed the top of my body was much warmer than it was with the door open.

The flotation tank has 10″ of water saturated with 1000 pounds of Epsom salt, creating incredibly buoyant water for you to float on and the water is heated to skin temperature (93.5 F). You are in complete darkness and silence for the entirety of the experience. It was an amazing opportunity for me to clear my head of my outside cares for 60 solid minutes. According to the staff at Gravity Spa, each experience inside of the tank can be a different one and it really comes down to the individual. Some people sleep, others stretch and remain active while inside the tank.

Flotation at Gravity Spa was definitely a relaxing and calming experience for me. My skin felt great afterwards and my entire body felt rejuvenated. I truly believe that everyone should at least try a float experience to see if it is a good fit for them!
