Local Spotlight: Give Back Cincinnati

Give Back Cincinnati (GBC) is the area’s largest young professional volunteering organization — a group dedicated to making a meaningful impact through hands-on service projects, civic engagement, and social connection. Founded in 2000, this nonprofit has built a thriving community of volunteers who are shaping a better Cincinnati, one event at a time.

We spoke with Anna Demerly, Director of Communications for Give Back Cincinnati, to learn more about the organization’s history, mission, and how young professionals can get involved.

How Did Give Back Cincinnati Get Started?

Give Back Cincinnati began with a small group of friends who wanted to make a difference in their city. What makes GBC unique is its accessible, “show-up-and-serve” model — volunteers can take part in as many or as few projects as they wish.

“Through our engagement in the Greater Cincinnati area, we develop today’s communities and tomorrow’s leaders,” says Demerly.

The Four Pillars of Give Back Cincinnati

The foundation of GBC’s mission is built on four key pillars that guide every event and initiative:

  1. Interactive – Engaging communities at all levels, from school children to senior citizens.

  2. Hands-On – Getting involved directly through volunteer work in parks, schools, and neighborhoods.

  3. Civic Engagement – Learning about local issues and inspiring deeper community awareness.

  4. Social – Building friendships and community through fun, inclusive social gatherings.

A Lasting Impact on Cincinnati

Over the past 25 years, Give Back Cincinnati has contributed tens of thousands of volunteer hours and engaged thousands of volunteers across the region.
Signature projects like Paint the Town — which transforms the exteriors of hundreds of local homes — highlight GBC’s commitment to both service and community pride.

Beyond painting projects, the organization’s programming now includes leadership development, domestic and international service trips, and events that combine civic learning with hands-on impact.

What’s Coming Up in 2025/26

How to Get Involved

Young professionals can join any GBC event — from painting homes and cleaning up parks to making tie-blankets for veterans. Volunteers can also expand their leadership skills by joining committees or applying for board positions to help plan future initiatives.

Participation is simple: sign up for an event online, show up, and get ready to make an impact.

Ways for the Whole Community to Support

Not a young professional? You can still support Give Back Cincinnati by donating, sponsoring events, or spreading the word. Many alumni and community partners continue to stay involved, offering mentorship, resources, and encouragement to the next generation of volunteers.
