Hidden Gems: Little Miami Scenic Trail

Running more than 78 miles, starting in Springfield and ending on the east side of Cincinnati, the Little Miami Scenic Trail is the fourth-longest paved trail in the United States.

Abundant in recreational options, visitors can take their pick. Land options included bicycling, hiking, rollerblading, backpacking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing by permit in the winter. Because this is a riverside trail, aquatic options on the Little Miami River include fishing and paddlesports like canoeing and kayaking. An Ohio fishing license is required for everyone 16 and older.

From US Route 50 and Wooster Lane to the end of the Loveland section, the Scenic Trail also picks up part of the 1,440-mile Buckeye Trail that runs from Lake Erie to the Ohio River.

Pop In & Out

Because of its length, the Little Miami Scenic Trail offers lots of access points along the way. John Bryan and Caesar Creek State Parks are reachable from the trail, along with the Fort Ancient State Historical Site. In Corwin, there is a staging area with parking, restrooms and picnic tables.

Popular access points include Loveland, where locals affectionately call this part of the trail the “Loveland Bike Trail,” and claim it is the most active stop on the trail with parking, restrooms, picnic tables and a quaint town to explore. Other trailside stops include Oregonia, Morrow, South Lebanon, Fosters, Miamiville and Milford. Stops within the Great Parks of Hamilton County include the Avoca Trailhead, Little Miami Golf Center, Bass Island and Otto Armleder Memorial Park.
