Holiday Junction Featuring Brickopolis at the Cincinnati Museum Center

If all the renovations at the Museum Center have you down, there’s a big reason to cheer up! Holiday Junction Featuring Brickopolis at the Cincinnati Museum Center is back and a must-see part of this year’s holiday happenings in Cincinnati.

Just last week, the Museum Center announced the beloved Duke Energy Children’s Museum Center would be closed until spring – sad news for any Cincinnati Parent (especially during the bleak winter months!). However, for the next two months (until January 2, 2018), you can visit Holiday Junction at the Museum Center – and there’s lots of fun to be had at this delightful holiday event!

Holiday Junction Featuring Brickopolis features all your kids’ favorites from the Duke Energy Holiday Trains – just on a smaller scale. The kid-sized riding train, Thomas the Tank Engine (and friends) display and the Super-O interactive layout trains are all there – plus lots of train tables for even more fun! Santa arrives on November 24th, and stays up until the Big Day (he even has a Member Story Time each Monday from 9-10 am!). There’s a lot of fun packed into this exhibit.

The main event, in my opinion, is the LEGO Brickopolis display. It’s truly a sight to behold. We’re talking 1,800 square feet of LEGO landscapes created by the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana LEGO Users Group, featuring fun holiday scenes, whimsical components, pop-culture nods and more – all in a colorful array of tiny building bricks.

The fully-functional LEGO trains were truly spectacular, and my son was literally squealing with delight at all the details in each tiny scene. (Finding Batman – there are several incognito Batman figures hidden around Brickopolis – was a fun activity for both of us!Brickopolis is definitely something you need to see, and your kids will want to return to again and again this holiday season!

Do you see Batman? He’s just above the “police station” sign!

This time next year, the Duke Energy Holiday Trains will be up and running in all their glory, and the Museum Center will be back and better than ever after two years of extensive renovations. I’m looking forward to it – as are my kids – as this Cincinnati institution is a true treasure and amazing resource for families. But while we all eagerly await that moment, let’s celebrate the season at Holiday Junction – it’s definitely a joyful and fun reason to visit the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Holiday Junction featuring Brickopolis runs daily through Jan., 2, 2018, with special holiday hours Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends, and New Year’s Eve. Admission is free for members – and, by the way, if you renew your membership by Jan. 2, 2018, you’ll get 18 months for the price of 12!
