Holiday Lights Will Illuminate the Purple People Bridge this Weekend

This just in: Holiday Lights Will Illuminate the Purple People Bridge this Weekend.

If you needed a little extra dose of holiday cheer this year, we’ve got it! This weekend, the Purple People Bridge will be illuminated with 1,000 holiday lights and a huge Christmas tree as part of the Winter Nights, River Lights holiday event.

During Winter Nights, River Lights, the Purple People Bridge will be decked out with a 25-foot Christmas tree, 1,000 white-and-purple lights and projected lighting and music. In addition to the display, visitors can enjoy scenic views of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky from high above the Ohio River. Similar lighting and decorations will grace the Riverwalk at Newport on the Levee. Winter Nights, River Lights will be up now through Jan. 15, 2021, and is free to enjoy.

For the past three years, Newport Southbank Bridge Company has spent roughly $10,000/year for lights on the bridge and other holiday-related expenses. But this year, due to the financial struggles caused by COVID-19, the company was forced to cancel the holiday lights.

But then local real estate firm North American Properties stepped in, saying they would get the funding needed to light up the bridge for the holidays.

The result is 1,000 twinkling lights along Cincinnati’s iconic Purple People Bridge. The public is invited to enjoy the Winter Nights, River Lights display in a socially distant manner now through Jan. 15. So bundle up and make it a fun family adventure this holiday season!
