Milestones, Inc. is a horsemanship program located in the hills of Independence, KY. Their mission is to help individuals of all ages to improve their quality of life despite their unique challenges.
Equestrian programs offered at Milestones, Inc. include Therapeutic Riders for special needs and Silver Saddles for ages 50+!
Therapeutic Riders program is for children with any official diagnosis including anxiety, Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, or a traumatic brain injury, and the Silver Saddles program which is for ages 50 and over. Silver Saddles helps those of that demographic to learn new skills, socialize and stay healthy.
Both programs have been proven to teach problem-solving skills, help sharpen decision-making skills, increase the ability to focus and stay on task, promote self-esteem, improve coordination, and stimulate the vestibular, nervous, and circulatory systems.
The Therapeutic Riders program is self paced, but is broken down into three levels, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. At the Beginning level, your student will learn about all the basics of horsemanship, which includes horse grooming. At the Intermediate and Advanced levels, the students will have leaders and side walkers, but they are more focused on the skills that the student has developed. At the advanced level, some students may be able to ride on their own.
At all levels, students also complete tasks and exercises involving rings, balls, numbers, and letters, in addition to riding. All activities are designed to improve riding skills as well as flexibility, balance, and overall body movement.
