Museums to Visit in SW Ohio

Museums are such a fun way to beat the Summer heat. With varying interests there is something for everyone on this list.

Here are a few Museums to Visit in Southwest Ohio. 

Boonshoft Museum of Discovery 

This is a very popular children’s museum. Their main focus is on science and natural history. They are also home to a mini zoo exhibit where families can explore live animals that are native to Ohio.

National Museum of the US Air Force

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is the official museum of the USAF and is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It’s one of the oldest and largest military aviation museums in the world. They showcase more than 360 aircrafts and missiles here.

Fort Ancient 

Fort Ancient is a Native American site where you can explore North America’s largest ancient hilltop enclosure. This National Historic landmark was built over 2,000 years ago. The site is thought to have served as a social and ceremonial gathering place.

Miami Valley Military Museum

This museum houses armed forces artifacts & research materials from the Revolutionary War to now. Join them in remembering those who have served. It’s a place where our veterans are welcomed and honored!

Carillon Historical Park

Carillon Historical Park is a 65-acre park and museum. In addition to the beautiful historic buildings they also feature exhibits on the history of technology. They do an amazing job of capturing the vibrant history of Dayton and its residents from 1796 to now.

Cincinnati Art Museum 

The Cincinnati Art Museum was founded in 1881. It’s one of the first purpose-built art museums and is one of the oldest in the United States. In addition to a broad display of eclectic pieces they also feature several national and international traveling exhibitions each year.

Hours: Monday Closed, Friday – Wednesday 11:00am – 5:00pm, Thursday 11:00am – 8:00pm

Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal

The Cincinnati History Museum opened up in 1990 at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. This specific museum features a recreated Cincinnati Public Landing from the mid 1860s as well as an exhibit covering Cincinnati’s role in World War II.

National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center

The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center has a mission to chronicle the very rich and varied experiences of African Americans from their African origins to now.
