The back-to-school rush is over, the kids are already complaining about homework (or is that just mine?), and we had a glimpse of fall weather, which quickly reverted back to sweltering heat. That must mean it’s September in Cincinnati! The calendar may not agree, but many families are in full fall mode and one of the best ways to celebrate the season as a family is to visit a local pumpkin patch around the Tristate. Our area offers so many family-friendly destinations this time of year for pumpkin picking, corn box playing, apple cider drinking and more, that the range of options can be overwhelming.
If you’re looking for a new place to try this year or just want to add to your list of favorite farms in Cincinnati, start a new fall tradition at Country Pumpkins in Dry Ridge, Kentucky.
If you live in Northern Kentucky, or even if you don’t, Country Pumpkins is a beautiful and fun-filled place to take the family this fall. Their fall festival is already in full swing and we were lucky enough to check it out during their opening weekend. If you’re unfamiliar with this Northern Kentucky gem, it is a family-owned dairy farm that opens up their gates in the fall for a large, one-of-a-kind festival. They have it all, from corn mazes to pumpkins to beautiful scenery. This is one of our favorite fall destinations in the Queen City thanks to its variety of activities and scenic, out-in-the-country atmosphere.
Country Pumpkins is now open evenings during the week and during the day on the weekends. If you want to take advantage of all of the rides and activities, you’ll want to head there on a Friday evening after 5 pm or on Saturday or Sunday (it’s open through Halloween). If you’re going to pick just one farm to visit this year, Country Pumpkins has a great variety of things to do for all ages. If you have little ones, as well as older children, this is a great spot thanks to its diversity of activities.
We had several favorites; in fact, each member of my family would name a different highlight. My 6-year-old son loved having so much open space to roam and things to climb on, like the hay bale pyramid. Our 5-year-old daughter loved the sweet farm animals and playing in the corn. My husband could have spent all day in the Chunkin’ Pumpkin area. And I loved the 25-minute hayride through the property and actually cutting a pumpkin from the field to take home.
Country Pumpkins is a great combination of real, working farm and a fall festival. You get the rural setting, along with all of the fun we’ve come to love about autumn in Cincinnati. There are a number of special events taking place at Country Pumpkins throughout September and October, including a Chunkin’ Pumpkin 5K, Country Fireside Nights and a Costume Day. Be sure to take a look at all of the fun things coming up and pick a day that works best for your family.Â
As we say goodbye to pool parties and water slides, it’s time to welcome in corn mazes and bonfires. Country Pumpkins is a worthy fall destination from anywhere in the Cincinnati area and it’s the perfect place to begin a new family tradition this year.
