The Cincinnati Zoo’s Penguin Parade

When the weather is warm, there is one place we visit more than any other – the Cincinnati Zoo.  But recently, we’ve added the zoo to our wintertime rotation as well!  There are only so many days you can spend indoors, and the zoo is the perfect place to get some fresh air, especially right now!

Visit the Cincinnati Zoo on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday and you’ll be treated to the best parade in town – a penguin parade!

Every Friday through Monday, now through February 27th, the penguins will venture out of their Wings of the World home for a special parade at 11 a.m. and again at 2:30 p.m.  Important to note: the parade only happens when the temperature is less than 50 degrees! Penguins do love the cold after all.

To see this parade in person is pure magic. You really get to see these adorable animals up close and their signature waddle will surely make you smile. A year after we saw this parade, my kids were still talking about it! It may be short, but it is the sweetest attraction you’ll see this winter and a definite reason to bundle up and pay a visit to the zoo!

When you visit the Cincinnati Zoo this winter, there are a few other things to keep in mind.  Through March 10th, you will enjoy half-price zoo admission! You can also check out the newest addition to the zoo – the hippos!  And make sure to congratulate them, as they are expecting a baby hippo this spring!

For more information, check out the zoo’s website here.

A native Cincinnatian, Andrea has experienced life in all four corners of this city. After growing up on the west side, she headed north to attend Miami University, then moved east to Hyde Park and now lives in Northern Kentucky with her family.

When she’s not playing trains and doing the “hot dog dance” as a stay-at-home mom to her two toddlers, Andrea is busy writing for Cincinnati publications and brainstorming ideas for her next children’s book! With a newfound passion for fitness and overall health, she spends a lot of time at her family gym and loves to play outside.

Andrea worked in education for several years and has a special love for children’s literature. She loves showing her children all our city has to offer and enjoys sharing her finds with other parents. Her favorite spots include the Cincinnati Zoo (although she steers clear of the bird house), her local library and any playground.
