The mission of the Dayton Regional STEM School is to prepare and inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators. Founded in 2009, the Dayton Regional STEM School is a public independent STEM school located in Kettering, Ohio. Our students in grades K-12 represent over 35 districts in 8 counties throughout the Dayton region. Students are admitted via lottery and there is no tuition. Our innovative and student-centered education model is focused on principles of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), career pathways, project-based learning, career exploration, professional competencies, and workforce development for the region. We are excited to share that after 16 years of successfully serving students in grades 6-12, we are expanding to elementary this fall!

What makes Dayton Regional STEM School unique?

Science, technology, engineering, and math are critical to our learning model, but we also say that STEM can stand for Strategies That Engage Minds. The Dayton Regional STEM School’s interdisciplinary approach to learning blends STEM education with real-world applications. We emphasizes project-based learning, where students work on collaborative, hands-on projects that solve real-world problems. The school’s partnerships with local businesses, universities, and industries allow students to engage in internships and research, providing them with professional experience and early exposure to in-demand career fields. Additionally, we ensure that learning is personalized, giving students opportunities to explore their individual interests and strengths while being both challenged and supported. This combination of academic rigor, practical experience, and a strong community makes the Dayton Regional STEM School a one-of-a-kind educational experience.

What is Dayton Regional STEM School’s age/grade range?

Our middle/high school building houses students in grades 6-12. We are excited that our campus is growing to serve students in grades K-12! Our neighboring K-5 elementary building is currently under construction. Grades K, 1, 2, and 4 will be added for the 2025-26 school year. We will expand to our full K-5 capacity for the 2026-27 school year.

What is your enrollment policy? Are there any key dates parents should be aware of?

Prospective families should complete a New Student Application on our website to be included in our admissions lottery. We are currently accepting applications for grades K, 1, 2, and 4, due to a phased expansion to elementary. The elementary application is due on February 7th. Applications for grades 6-9 will be available in mid-January and are due on March 21st. We do not admit students after 9th grade due to graduation requirements.

Our Admissions Open Houses are coming up in February! Visit us for a tour and learn more about our programs with breakout sessions and activities. Registration is available on our website.

Do you offer financial assistance?

As a public school, families are not charged tuition to attend.

What are the standard school day hours?

Our middle/high school hours are currently 8:15am-3:15pm. This may be subject to change for 2025-26 as our district expands. Elementary hours have not yet been determined. More information can be found on our website soon.

Does Dayton Regional STEM School offer before/after school care? Does your school offer afterschool activities?

Yes, before and after school care is available for a fee. We also have a variety of extracurriculars that students can explore, including Robotics, First Lego League, CyberPatriot, service organizations, leadership clubs, student interest groups, and more.

Is there a uniform or dress code?

Students do not wear uniforms. A standard school dress code can be found in our student handbook.

How many children attend Dayton Regional STEM School? How many students are in the average classroom?

For elementary grades, classes size are 20-25 students. Middle and high school classes are 25-28 students, and decrease in upper-level electives.

Does Dayton Regional STEM School offer support for students with special needs?

We have a fantastic team of intervention specialists who support students with special needs in our inclusion model.

What specialty classes / extracurricular activities does yDayton Regional STEM School offer (gym, art, language, sports etc.)?

In our elementary grades, students will have STEM Beginnings, Art & Design, and Movement as specialty classes. Our required middle school STEM Foundations courses are critical to student success. These include Principles of STEM, STEM Explorations, Engineering, Digital Exploration, and Digital Design. The high school has many innovative electives to choose from, including Robotics, Material Science, Medical Interventions, Game Design, Engineering Design and Development, Computer Hardware, Architecture, Anatomy & Physiology, and more!
