Where are we going this weekend? Feb. 27-28

We made it to Friday!

We are entering that “in-between” time of year, where it’s not yet spring, and not really winter. Which makes figuring out what to do a little difficult. (Do you do something inside? Venture outside?)

Here are our top 5 picks for what to do this weekend (courtesy of our fabulous online calendar):

1. Penguin Days at the Zoo

Penguin Days Main

Daily through March 11; Penguin Parades on Sat. and Sun. when the temps are under 50 degrees.

Maybe you won’t get to see the #bestparadeinamerica, but you should still head to the Zoo this weekend for half-price admission, special animal encounters and, of course, some fresh air!

2. Macy’s Art Sampler

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Clifton Cultural Arts Center

Explore new arts in your neighborhood! Join us for a day-long celebration of the local arts groups that are making Cincinnati amazing, all thanks to Macy’s and ArtsWave. Activities lineup includes:

  • Arts & Crafts: Join CCAC in making Springtime Banjos with your budding musicians!
  • Musical Adventures with Corryville Suzuki Project, an exciting program of folk songs, jazz, fiddle tunes and classical played by young musicians, ages 5-18. The performers will demonstrate various games used to learn to play stringed instruments.
  • ROKCincy presents “Wizard of Oz”: Using the beloved and familiar story made famous by the 1939 film, we’ve added operatic classics to enhance the drama and retell the tale as only ROKCincy can. The performance is 40 minutes in length, appropriate for kids of all ages, and includes a Q&A session with the cast.

3. Peanut Butter and Jam Sessions

Shows on Saturday at 10 a.m. & 11:30 a.m., Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church

Joy and sadness are just a few of the feelings we can hear and explore with music, so if you’re happy, and you know it, join the violin, cello and piano on this musical adventure! Free ArtsWave Sampler Concerts.

4. Maple Sugar Days

12 – 5 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 and Sun., Feb. 28, Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve/Ellenwood Nature Barn (one of our Great Parks)

It’s maple sugaring time! Bring the whole family to celebrate the awakening of the trees as we prepare for spring with the very traditional craft of making maple syrup. Enjoy this delicious weekend of tastes, crafts, demonstrations and hikes.

5. Robot Zoo

Open Sat. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sun., 1 – 5 p.m., Boone County Main Library

This is the last weekend of this acclaimed exhibit! The Robot Zoo is a popular, 5,000-square-foot exhibit that features giant robot animals to illustrate how real animals work. It also includes activities designed for children from ages 4 to 12. These include: triggering the Tongue Gun of the robot Chameleon, seeing through the eyes of a common house fly, and racing squid!
