Amazing news for our young writers! WordPlay Cincy is excited to share that the Cincinnati Youth Poet Laureate program is back for a second year!
WordPlay is proud to be the founding partner and host for the inaugural year of The Cincinnati Youth Poet Laureate (Cincy YPL) Program! Cincy YPL is a creative writing and civic engagement out-of-school competition that aims to identify youth writers and leaders who are committed to community service through poetry, performance, and social justice. In May, WordPlay will select one teen poet to serve in the role of Youth Poet Laureate for the 2023-2024 term.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain special access to mentoring opportunities, leadership development, and a diversity of performance engagements.
The program is open to all youth, ages 14 – 18, in the Greater Cincinnati area. Here, Cincinnati is defined as the greater Metropolitan Area, which excludes Kentucky and Indiana.

WordPlay infuses reading, writing and storytelling with the visual and performing arts, where children and teens uncover their unique personal narratives, activate their strengths, and determine how they want to contribute to a more just, inclusive and creatively connected community.
