5 Reasons You Should Be Shopping at IKEA

Kids are messy. And despite the fact that we have kids and pets and lives, we still crave Pinterest-worthy houses that are organized and pretty.

But, guess what? We’ve discovered the secret to achieving gorgeous, modern, clean houses that would make Martha proud. Oh — and on a parent-friendly budget:

IKEA

This Swedish superstore has it all: sofas and shelving, cookware and containers, multi-purpose pieces and easy-to-assemble storage. And living where we do, IKEA West Chester is an easy 20-30 minute drive away.

Cincinnati Parents, if you’re not shopping at IKEA yet, you should be! And if you’re a major IKEA fan, it’s probably time for a little trip up 1-75 for a spring refresh! Here are 5 reasons you should be shopping at IKEA:

1. The options are endless

IKEA will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. It’s like the pages of your Real Simple magazine come to life! Need toy storage? A new shoe rack? Shelving? Bakeware? You’ll find it all at IKEA.

We especially love the myriad multi-purpose pieces from IKEA: spice racks that double as kids’ bookshelves; storage that works in a playroom or hall closet — one of our writers even created a Home Command Center by combining a tabletop, utensil and condiment holders and a magazine rack! The sky truly is the limit at IKEA.

2. Your kids will love it

IKEA is loads of fun for kids. The Children’s Department alone is worth the trip (and provides a great bribe to keep your kids moving through the store!). Circus tents, larger-than-life stuffed animals, makeshift vehicle tables, art supplies, doll houses and dress up clothes — you’ll find the kinds of interactive — non-electronic — toys to inspire your kids’ imaginations.

There’s also a Story Time every Tuesday at 1 p.m., regular crafts and activities in the Restaurant and a free Play Area for kids that features all of IKEA’s best kid’s products and toys, and gives parents the opportunity for a kid-free shopping experience.

3. Two words: Swedish Meatballs

IKEA is big — and you’ll want to look at everything. Doing so will surely work up an appetite; and luckily, IKEA’s Restaurant is dishing up classic comfort food like mac n’ cheese, pasta, waffles and chicken tenders, plus Scandinavian specialties like Swedish meatballs with Lingonberry sauce and smoked salmon with veggies. (If you’re feeling adventurous, you can choose from a vast array of Swedish favorites in IKEA’s Swedish Food Market.) Vegetarian/vegan? Skip the Swedish meatballs and order veggie meatballs!

In addition to its unique offerings, what really stands out here are the prices. Kids’ meals are just $2.49 — unless you go on a Tuesday, when they’re FREE — and adult meals are all well under $10. If you’re an IKEA Family Member (which you should be — it’s totally free and gives you access to daily deals), you get special discounts in the Restaurant.

4. You will stay on budget

We’ve done some comparison shopping, and IKEA blows the competition away in selection, quality and price. You’ll find the exact same storage solutions as other big-price big-name retailers, for sometimes half the price. Same with kids’ nursery essentials — skip the overpriced specialty stores; you’ll find fun, whimsical pieces for whatever nursery or playroom you’re designing, and still have money left for the kids’ college funds.

One of our writers is a food blogger; she is in her kitchen all the time creating recipes to share on her website. She was able to give her kitchen a huge makeover — spatulas, bowls, beaters, bakeware, storage — for under $200. She was blown away by the quality of IKEA’s bakeware, which is comparable to those specialty cooking stores that charge $20 for a whisk. {Getting married? Be sure to register for all your bakeware/houseware at IKEA — your guests will thank you!}

5. Your house will finally be organized

As parents, organization is the goal. But it can feel completely elusive and unattainable. IKEA empowers parents to take control and finally get organized.

Peruse or order a catalog to get inspiration. Better yet, read though our features to find out how our team (busy, working parents just like you!) transformed our home’s problem areas:

Spring is here, and it’s time to get organized! Save time, money and your sanity by shopping at IKEA.

Many thanks to IKEA West Chester for their partnership over the last six months. While they generously supplied the products listed in these features, all opinions are the writers’.
