The missing Father’s Day card my daughter made at school a month ago finally showed up. She gave me a great hand-made card on Father’s Day, but when she found her “school” card, naturally she wanted me to have it too.
When I opened it, I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit to myself. As you can see from the picture, the card was a recliner with a remote control and a bag of chips sitting in it. It said Happy Father’s Day, but it might as well of said, “Happy Father’s Day you fat and lazy bum.”
Honestly, I don’t care about the card, but I do think it shows a little bit of a simple-minded view of fatherhood from a half-century ago. I know a lot of dads, but I don’t know a single one that I would describe as the tuned out dad with the remote in one hand and elbow deep in a bag of Ruffles with the other.
Funny stuff.
Offensive? No. But maybe time to show dads a little more respect.
Don’t you think?
