Art in the City is returning to downtown Dayton on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 1 to 7 p.m., and it’s packed with creativity, energy, and fun for all ages.
Overview
Presented by AES Ohio as part of Dayton’s Summer in the City series, Art in the City is a vibrant, one-day celebration of visual and performing arts. The event features more than 400 local artists, performance groups, and exhibitors—from painters and dancers to spoken-word poets and chalk artists—scattered throughout downtown Dayton. Best of all, it’s completely FREE and family-friendly.



Highlights & Activities
Hands-On Art Zones
Families can stop by the Chalk Walk on St. Clair Street to see sidewalk masterpieces come to life—or join in the fun and create their own. Inside the Dayton Arcade, the Art Full Circle exhibit offers rotating live demonstrations under the breathtaking rotunda. Kids will especially love the Family Zone, where they can get crafty with hands-on art projects.
Live Performances
Catch everything from dance and live music to poetry and pop-up theater performances on stages and sidewalks throughout downtown. The Human Race Theatre Company will host interactive shows between 3 and 5 p.m.—perfect for spontaneous entertainment.
The Great Dayton Cake-Off
New this year, local bakers will compete in a cake art showdown, where visitors can sample and vote for their favorite creations. It’s a fun—and tasty—addition the whole family can enjoy.
Juried Art Show and Art Bazaar
Browse the juried art exhibit curated by the Dayton Society of Artists, then visit the Art Bazaar to support local makers and pick up one-of-a-kind handmade goods.
