This just in: Coney Island will remove all its classic amusement park rides at the end of the month.
Coney Island will be removing all of its amusement park rides to shift its focus into enhancing its water park experience for guests. The park will be shifting its focus to Sunlite Pool and its other waterpark features.
“All of our consumer research, all of our consumer feedback, and all of our in-park data shows that the vast majority of our guests come to Coney Island because of the fun they have while in the Sunlite Pool area,” said Rob Schutter, Jr., president and CEO of Coney Island, in a press release.
Moreover, in recent years, the park has had to split its resources and attention between its rides and water adventure area, limiting what could be spent in either area. Coney Island will be kicking off a multiphase renovation to enhance its water park, ahead of Sunlite Pool’s 100th birthday in 2025.
Coney Island made recent headlines with its decision to cancel its Fall-o-Ween festival. Instead, the park will be focused on a bigger and better holiday event. Christmas Nights of Lights opens Nov. 8 and runs nightly through Jan. 5, 2020.
