Corwin M. Nixon Park: A Park for the Entire Family

One of my favorite local parks just happens to be my summer second home. Two days a week, I taxi my daughter to and from swim team practice at the Lou Eves Municipal Pool in Corwin M. Nixon Park. Besides the state-of-the-art, family friendly pool, this Mason Park boasts 51 acres of green landscape, a paved walking trail, sport fields, picnic shelters and a fantastic playground. Corwin M. Nixon Park is truly a park for the entire family.

Located off Mason-Montgomery Rd. behind Mason High School, this park has activities for everyone. But let me begin with my favorite area of the park…..the pool. The zero-entry Lou Eves Municipal Pool features a tot-pool, diving board, climbing wall, 150-foot water slide, large snack bar and eating area with umbrella picnic tables.

With excellent lifeguards and swim instructors/coaches, the pool also provides swim lessons; and for your confident swimmer, try out for the Mason Water Moccasins Swim Team that practices in the eight 25-meter racing lanes each morning. But if you are in the mood for a little relaxation, enjoy a lounge chair and soak up some sun or chill out under the shade shelters.

ICYMI: Last week, Ainslie shared her experiences at another favorite park in Mason — The Beach!

Feel like getting some exercise? A one-mile paved walking trail surrounds the park. With its scenic views, this trail winds around the soccer fields and is favored by many dog walkers for the doggy drinking fountain. Last fall, my family and I participated in the Mason Corporate 5K. The route included this trail; and with its paved path, my child walked with ease. Alternatively, if you want to play some dodge ball, baseball or soccer, head to the sport fields for hours of entertainment and good sportsmanship.

Last week after swim practice, my daughter and friends took some time out to monkey around on the playground. For children of all ages, this playground includes slides, several climbing walls, monkey bars, swings and more. Plus, that parent-approved rubber floor to prevent any severe injuries. With all the activity, this playground enables your children to stay fit, have fun and burn off energy. There is also lots of seating for adults and clean restrooms (which, as every parent knows, can be very hit-or-miss at playgrounds!). And if your little ones work up an appetite, a gazebo picnic area with charcoal grills and a drinking fountain is just a few short feet away.

The Corwin M. Nixon Park is easily accessible with lots of parking. With its smaller environment, all amenities can be seen at once, making it very family-friendly. This is definitely the park to enjoy on your next sunny day out!

Corwin M. Nixon Park is located at 6249 Mason-Montgomery Rd, Mason, Ohio 45040. Park hours are: May – August: 7:00 a.m. – sunset and September – April: 8:00 a.m. – sunset.
