Somewhere between needing to unplug and having an adventure-packed family weekend falls Dappled Light Adventures and the coziest cabin in Daniel Boone National Forest. Whether you’re needing to dive into a good book on the cliff’s edge or lay among the trees in a net, the 50 acre family-owned Kentucky property has a little bit of everything.
Dappled Light Adventures is the place to be for Spring Break glamping!
Escaping the reality of work and school is not always easy but a short two hour drive south will land you right in the middle of the famous geographical area of Red River Gorge. The gorge is known for its boisterous rock formations, sandstone arches, flowing Red River, towering cliff edges, crystal clear night sky and fun outdoor recreational activities.
A great place to take the kids for family-fun in nature, the gorge offers easy, flat hikes, a drive through the famous Nada Tunnel, skylift to Lookout Point, mini golf, underground boating, horseback riding, climbing and more!
The Cabin
The Cabin rests on a cliff’s edge, giving picture-perfect views of the tree top canopies and gorge below. The stunning wrap around porch is a serene place to sit and enjoy the clouds rolling through. If you’re lucky, nothing beats the experience of an afternoon spring rain in the cabin.
Considered partially rustic, The Cabin has electricity for mom and dad’s morning pot of coffee but spotty wifi/cell service. In parts of the cabin, you can find a bit of a signal but you totally have our encouragement to completely unplug and reconnect with nature and family.
Fitted with a full-size refrigerator, stove, electric fireplace, indoor plumbing, fold out couch, one queen & one twin bed, private porch and outdoor shower, the cabin has just what you need to get through a relaxed weekend away.
Glamping Tents
Uniquely designed, Dappled Light Adventures offers five glamping rentals complete with a queen mattress, cozy rugs, a couch or arm chair and private porch. Steps away from the coolest tree nets and shared communal space, the glamping tent rentals come with access to a brand new, shared bathhouse.
Custom Dappled Light Adventures Retreats
The father-son team behind Dappled Light Adventures has affectionately turned their 50 acre family property into a secret paradise deep within the gorge. The Rains duo takes pride in sharing their land and the RRG region with visitors far and wide.
Offering custom retreats and group events, the Rains curate experiences to connect campers with their entire property including hikes past beautiful water features and thrilling cliffs. A visit to Dappled Light Adventures is not complete without a romp across the colorful tree nets. Securely fastened to the trees around, parents– don’t miss your chance to feel like a kid again!
The Red River Gorge
The Red River Gorge offers plenty of outdoor recreation activities and secretly has some delicious food options! Thatcher BBQ, Miguel’s Pizza, gourmet hot dogs from Skybridge Station and delicious lattes & grab and go items from the Daniel Boone Coffee Shop.
MUST SEE: Load up the kids and take a drive through Nada Tunnel, originally built as a narrow railroad but now for cars only. The tunnel drive has only one direction in and out; sometimes a line can form but it moves pretty quickly and is absolutely worth the wait. Your family will always remember the tight drive through the center of a huge, towering rock!
Complete the best family road-trip with a visit to the Gorge Underground, an old abandoned-mine-turned-boating experience. Kids age 3+ can hop on a boat ride or age 5+ can tandem along with parents in a crystal clear kayak with colorful LED lights. Watch as rainbow trout swim under kayaks and paddle boards during the roughly one hour guided tour.
