Event Details

Join Batres Gilvin at KidSPACE in the Cincinnati Museum Center for a piñata-making workshop celebrating food, fun, and memories inspired by Julia Child! In this playful session, each participant will create a piñata inspired by their favorite food, honoring a cherished recipe or food memory. Using small cardboard boxes, colorful tissue paper, cardstock, and decorative materials, you’ll learn crafting techniques to transform your piñata into a whimsical tribute to the foods that bring you joy.

At the end, our creations will come together in a festive display—a joyful tablescape celebrating the magic of shared meals and culinary creativity. Join us for this unique workshop and be part of a vibrant community artwork!

About the Artist

Batres Gilvin is an artist duo from Greater Cincinnati, made up of Karla Batres and Bradly Gilvin, who met while studying art in Cincinnati. Together, they create colorful and imaginative art that combines Karla’s Mexican American heritage with Bradly’s Southern American roots. Working from their studio on a family farm, they turn everyday life into art, using playful, bright colors and familiar shapes to share stories about family, community, and identity.

In their work, Batres Gilvin mixes fun, sparkly designs with big ideas about belonging and celebrating where we all come from. They love to use surprising materials and textures to help people see the world in new ways. Through their art, they invite viewers to explore different cultures, ask questions, and celebrate what makes each of us unique!
