Family-Friendly Block Party at The Emery Theater

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) is throwing a party—and you’re invited! On Sunday, September 7, from 12–4 PM, families can head to Over-the-Rhine for a FREE, family-friendly Block Party to celebrate the reimagining of one of Cincinnati’s most historic venues: The Emery Theater.

The festivities will take place outside 1112 Walnut Street (between Central Parkway and 12th Street), with the street closed to traffic for the afternoon.

What to Expect

This block party promises fun for all ages, including:

  • A sneak peek inside the reimagined Emery Theater

  • Tasty bites from LaRosa’s, Graeter’s, Kroger’s On-The-Rhine Eatery, and more

  • Live music from Q102

  • Face painting, balloon animals, and glitter tattoos

  • Character meet-and-greets with TCT favorites

  • A big screen showing of the game outside

  • And plenty more surprises!

At 12:30 PM, a short program hosted by Local 12’s Bob Herzog will feature remarks from Mayor Aftab Pureval. Instead of a traditional ribbon-cutting, the Mayor and Herzog will flip the switch to activate the rotation of The Emery’s iconic crown marquee, officially marking the next chapter in the theater’s history.

Why It Matters

The Emery Theater, once hailed for its acoustics and compared to Carnegie Hall, is undergoing a $51.5 million restoration and reinvention. When it reopens in October 2025, it will become the most technologically advanced proscenium-style theatre in the United States, blending historic charm with cutting-edge stage technology.

As the new permanent home of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati—America’s oldest children’s theatre company—The Emery will not only revitalize a Cincinnati landmark but also position the city as a national hub for family-friendly theatre.

Coming Attractions

The first full season at The Emery kicks off in 2025–26 with an exciting lineup for families:
