Heritage Village Civil War Weekend

This weekend, relive one of the most defining moments in American history at Heritage Village Civil War Weekend.

Civil War Weekend brings re-enactor soldiers, citizens and cavalry to the Village. This year’s event will include a battle based on the Battle of Ball’s Bluff in 1861. Cavalry, artillery, infantry and civilians from both sides of the conflict will be on hand to tell the story. Kids can meet Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, see living history scenarios at the Village’s 19th century buildings and participate in hands-on activities.

This event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and continues as follows:

11-11:45 a.m.: Hardtack-making hands-on activity for kids (Kemper Kitchen—Saturday only)12-12:30 p.m.: Meet U.S. Grant (Arbor)

12-1 p.m.: Elk Lick House Tour (living history scenarios in each room)

12-1:45 p.m.: Brass Quintet (Hayner House front porch—Sunday only)

12-1 p.m.: Meet Melville the Macaw (Hayner House herb garden—Sunday only)

12:30-1 p.m.: Code Wheel Making hands-on activity for kids (Hayner House Ballroom)

1 p.m.: Conversation with Abraham Lincoln & Jefferson Davis (Somerset Church)CWW Davis and lincoln

1-1:30 p.m.: Siege of Cincinnati puzzle hands-on activity for kids (Hayner House Ballroom)

1-1:45 p.m.: Brass Quintet (Hayner House front porch — Saturday only)

2 p.m.: The Battle of Ball’s Bluff

2-2:45 p.m.: Hands-On Gallery open (Hayner House Basement)

(Sunday: event closes at 3 p.m.)

3 p.m.: Civil War Medicine (Tent by Dr. Langdon’s office – Saturday only)

4 p.m.: Confederate Dress Parade (in front of train station – Saturday only)

(Saturday: event closes at 5 p.m.)

In addition to the above schedule of events, there will be ongoing demonstrations and activities, such as pony cart delivering messages in the village, a quilting frolic in train station, hearth cooking in Kemper Kitchen and more!

Heritage Village is located at 11450 Lebanon Road (Route 42), inside Sharon Woods Park (A Hamilton County GreatParks parking pass is required — a day pass is $3; a year pass is $10.)
