If you’ve got a budding designer in your house, you have to check out the new Kids Market at The City Flea!
The City Flea Kids Market will be held on August 12, 2023 in conjunction with the regularly scheduled August market. Kids ages 4-14 will be set up around the bandstand at the south end of Washington Park and to sell their goods from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. There’s space for 33 kid makers and entrepreneurs on a first come, first serve basis. The fee to participate is $40 for a 10×10 booth space. (There are also 20 tents up for grabs on a first come, first serve basis.)
Sign up will be available on The City Flea’s website beginning at 9 a.m. this Monday, June 13. Additional information on how to pay, loading and logistics will be sent out to the participating kids after sign up.
Here are a few things to consider before signing your child up:
Does your child have enough ‘product’ to fill a 10×10 booth space?
10 friendship bracelets is a wonderful accomplishment, but probably not enough when trying to set up a booth. If your kiddo and her best friend want to join forces, that’s great too. There will be a place to indicate that on the sign up sheet. And remember, they don’t have to be makers. Sweet rock collection or vintage t-shirts? Yes! Bring it.
Will your child be able to ‘work’ their booth for the 4 hour market duration?
This is the real deal, and your kids will have to work!
Will your child’s booth stand out?
Get your kids thinking about not only what they want to make to sell or what they are collecting, but how can they turn their idea into an actual 10×10 business for the day. Handmade ‘business’ signs, table cloths and knick knacks for decor are all great ideas.
Is your child comfortable talking to adults?
If not, that’s okay but this might be a great way to teach them how to interact on another level with grown ups. “Hi, how are you’s? and how to count change or slide a credit card through the square would be helpful in preparing for Kids Market.
If this sounds like a fun opportunity for your child, head over to The City Flea on Monday to sign up! This is a fantastic outlet for local kids to showcase their wares and for them to get an idea of what it’s like to own and run a small business! (We recommend a major Project Runway marathon this summer — you know, for research.)
