To quote the famous Peter Pan, “Never grow up.” I take this very seriously, especially when it come to my love of Disney.
For the second year, my husband and I (along with another Disney-loving couple) took our annual No Kids Disney Trip to Walt Disney World. I am sure that you have thought of vacationing at Disney World/Land/Cruise as a family, but have you thought about an adult trip? These magical locations have so much to offer adults…. it’s your time to be a kid again.
To give you a taste of the adult activities we enjoyed, let me describe our itinerary. We chose the first weekend of November to participate in the runDisney Wine & Dine 10K and Half Marathon and enjoy the amazing culinary delights of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
If attending these events, I suggest staying on Disney property for easy access to runDisney and park transportation (bus/monorail). Plus, there is a new line of transportation, The Minnie Van. For a flat fee, they will take you to the park location of your choice… just sign up using the code from your resort and the Lyft app.
Just like kids, we love the parks!
We FastPassed our way through the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Our group visited favorite resort hotspots such as the Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian for Lapu Lapu drinks (served in whole pineapples) and pork nachos. This was the perfect rest stop to keep our energy up. And our evenings were filled with amazing dinners at non-character dining like Paddlefish (Disney Springs), Narcoossee (Grand Floridian) and much more.
Plus, we took advantage of extra magic hours at the parks (late night) meaning no wait times for some of our favorite attractions.
But early bedtimes are needed when you participate in the RunDisney Wine & Dine 10K and Half Marathon. Three of us only ran the 10K on Saturday morning, but my husband took on the Disney Two Course Challenge, combining the 10K and Half Marathon (Sunday), to earn the coveted Challenge medal. We rose early because the buses began transporting participants at 3:30am from resorts; and the races started at 5:30am. We raced through several parks with tons of roadside entertainment making it the most magical of morning exercise. But in the end, we completed the races, earned fun/unique medals and enjoyed much needed pool/spa time.
And now for the most important part of our No Kids Trip…. The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival which runs from late August to mid-November. With park entrance, you are immersed in this amazing event showcasing 35 different food kiosks from around the globe. This is the perfect opportunity to try traditional cuisine from some of your favorite countries. Plus, enjoy all the attractions Epcot has to offer. Every year, I make sure to travel to the Australian kiosk… I love the Lamington, Yellow Cake Dipped in Chocolate and Shredded Coconut.
Note: I personally feel that the festival is not appropriate for children after dark. It has more of an adult feel since many of the kiosk sell alcoholic beverages.
If you are planning an adult trip with your significant other or with another couple, make Disney your vacation destination. It’s the perfect place to have fun, reconnect and relax, too — and then return home to be the best parents you can be. Because all you need is “faith, trust and a little pixie dust.”
