Second Sunday Family Showtime at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center

I have young kids, and we’re pretty strict about bedtime. Unfortunately, this means that unless we can find a matinee, we miss much of the top-rate theatre Cincinnati has to offer. So when I found out about Second Sunday Family Showtime at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, I knew we had to check it out!

Second Sunday Family Showtime happens every second Sunday of the month, from October through May, at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center (CCAC). These shows are free for kids and just $5 for adults. And the kicker? These family-friendly performances are at 2 pm, making them the perfect afternoon activity for our family. Sunday Funday, indeed.

Each month features a different local arts troupe, from puppet shows to choral concerts to the circus. The show on October 8th featured My Nose Turns Red, Cincinnati’s very own youth circus. The show lasted just under an hour, and my kids were captivated the entire time. My Nose Turns Red is pure fun, and their antics, magic and acrobatics were absolutely delightful.

There was lots of audience participation, and everyone – including the adults – were laughing and gasping at the various feats of the circus performers!

The Clifton Cultural Arts Center is a place for the community to celebrate the arts. Within the walls of the historic Clifton School building is a place for kids, adults and arts appreciators to connect. All of the CCAC’s classes, events and exhibits work toward that mission. As of next summer, the historic Clifton School will once again return to its roots, transforming back into a neighborhood school as the newest addition to CPS. While the new CCAC location is yet to be determined, what’s clear is that the heart and spirit of this special place will prevail no matter the physical location.

Second Sunday Family Showtimes happen the second Sunday of each month at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. Coming up, you’ll want to mark your calendar for The Inventive Princess of Floralee (Nov. 12) and Celebrate the Season (Dec. 10). The Clifton Cultural Arts Center is located at 3711 Clifton Avenue in Cincinnati.
