Shoppers at the 2nd Street Market this Saturday will be treated to more than fresh, local produce. In addition to the outdoor vendors, Five Rivers MetroParks has arranged for two other community resources to be on-site, and MetroParks will present the 2020 award for Outstanding Support Organization from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials.

- When: Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the award being presented at 9 a.m.
- Where: 600 E. Second St., downtown Dayton. Note: Please enter at the east end of the Market

- Census takers will be on-site to help shoppers complete the 2020 U.S. Census, which ends collection on Sept. 30.
- Native tree seedlings will available on a first-come, first-served basis; a variety of hickory and oak seedlings will be available. Staff, wearing masks, will be on-site to help select the right tree(s) for individual properties; trees will come in easy-to-handle containers with directions on how to plant and care for the tree seedlings.
- At 9 a.m., Five Rivers MetroParks chief of administration, Bill Tschirhart, will present the award for the 2020 Outstanding Support Organization award from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials to staff at the 2nd Street Market and Homefull for their innovative partnership that helps people who are experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity. Homefull clients grow the produce sold at the Market on the nonprofit’s urban farms. Homefull’s clients are paid to run the booth at the 2nd Street Market and other farmers markets, which allows them to earn income and build applicable job skills.
