February is a big month for the arts in Cincinnati. Broadway in Cincinnati’s Hamilton is playing Feb. 19 through March 10 and its presence here really speaks to Cincinnati’s place in theatre and the performing arts. But Hamilton isn’t the only hot ticket this month — The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids is also a must-see theatre event.
The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids is next level and a must for all tiny theatre goers.
The choreography and caliber of this Children’s Theatre production is Broadway quality, and you’ll be mesmerized by this theatre troupe’s production of the Disney classic.
I am continually amazed by the quality of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s MainStage shows. The set and costume design, song and dance numbers, choreography and performing are unparalleled. Our children’s theatre is top notch, offering memorable interactions with the performing arts for Cincinnati families.
The Jungle Book Kids offers the kind of high-quality, exciting and accessible theatre-going experience you can count on from The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. However, from the beginning, this show promises to be something extra special.
One of the things I loved most about this show is the authentic cultural experience it offered. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati went to great lengths to make The Jungle Book Kids true to its Indian origins. The actors, music, costume and dance are Indian. The Children’s Theatre worked with a cultural consultant to make the show as authentic and culturally aware as possible, and their efforts are rewarded  by a stunning show that truly transports you to the jungles of India.
But despite its unique cultural perspective, Mowgli is incredibly relatable, as his coming-of-age story is universal. Actor Kavan Vadivelu’s Mowgli is sincere and earnest, and he adds so much heart to this production. Of course, the entire cast of characters in Mowgli’s journey are all equally memorable and charming, right down to the “dancing monkeys” my kids couldn’t get enough of.
As a mom, the scenes between Mowgli and Baloo really tugged at my heart. Having not seen The Jungle Book since I was a kid, this story took on a whole new meaning to me as a parent. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids is an experience you’ll remember long after the final curtain.
