5 Ways to Enjoy the Arts this Weekend in Cincinnati

We love the arts here in Cincinnati. So much, in fact, that we have an entire weekend dedicated to all things art! Yep, Macy’s Arts Sampler Weekend is here, and there will be all sorts of free family fun at our favorite venues around town. But that’s not all: this weekend is also a big one at the theatres, with two top-notch, kid-approved shows you won’t want to miss.

Here are our top 5 ways to enjoy the arts this weekend in Cincinnati:

#1. Macy’s Arts Sampler Weekend

This weekend-long event spotlights the Greater Cincinnati area’s many arts venues, artists and performers through its more than 100 free activities that take place in various communities throughout the region— from Loveland to Blue Ash, Covington to downtown Cincinnati. Get some of our top picks in this month’s February Free Guide.

#2. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

We love The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. I mean, how lucky are we to have such a fantastic children’s theatre?! TCT’s current show, The Wizard of Oz, is a must-see for families. Read our full review of this stellar show here.

#3. The Weston Gallery

In Cincy, art galleries aren’t just for adults {see the Art Museum’s Baby Tours}. Recently, The Weston Gallery debuted its Families Create! program — monthly classes where kids can get creative in a gallery setting. In this month’s class, 2D 3D 4U!, kids can explore how the digital world can expand the 3-D world. They’ll compute with artist Casey James Wilson to make new connections with art. {Psst! Read all about Families Create! in this feature.}

#4. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

When we were kids, it was Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood; now, the neighborhood belongs to Daniel Tiger! The legacy of the beloved ‘Mister Rogers’ lives on with the hit television series, ‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’, from The Fred Rogers Company and airing daily on PBS KIDS. Donning his iconic red sweater, Daniel takes the audience on an interactive musical adventure as he and his friends explore the vibrant world of their much-loved Neighborhood of Make-Believe, sharing stories of friendship, helping others, and celebrating new experiences. This live theatrical production filled with singing, dancing, laughter, and ‘grr-ific’ surprises will warm the hearts of multiple generations.

#5. Third Sunday Funday at the Taft Museum

Every month, the Taft Museum becomes a kid friendly space for art, creativity and fun. This month’s Funday is no exception, celebrating the Chinese New Year with lots of fun activities. Make a rooster-ish craft to take home, explore Chinese symbols at the Art Cart, and look at celebrations and children in Chinese art. Maybe a real hen (a female rooster) will stop by for a visit, too! Dancers from the Greater Cincinnati Chinese School will perform at 2 p.m. {While you’re there, be sure to ask about the next Taft Jr. program!}

Enjoy the arts this weekend — and every weekend! For more goings-on about town, be sure to bookmark our Online Calendar.
