5 ways to kick off spring this weekend in Cincinnati

March 1 marks the first day of meteorological spring — and we’re in full spring fever mode around here! It’s the first weekend of March, and there are lots of ways to celebrate the season here in Cincinnati. From carnivals to spring sports to consignment sales, spring has sprung — and we’re celebrating!

Here are 5 ways to kick off spring this weekend in Cincinnati:

Changing Hands Consignment Sale
Sat., March 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Madeira Elementary
Spring means consignment sales — and this month starts with one of our favorites: Madeira’s Changing Hands Sale. Whether you’re shopping or selling, you won’t want to miss it! This is a premier children’s consignment sale that offers discounted brand-name clothing (newborn-teen), shoes, accessories, toys, games, books, bikes, baby equipment, maternity and more. {Can’t make it to the sale? Once Upon a Child is basically the best consignment sale in the city — it’s open year-round!}

Welcome to Golf Orientation
Sat., March 4 from 1-3 p.m. at Winton Woods/Meadow Links & Golf Academy
Take a tour of the nationally recognized Meadow Links & Golf Academy and see all the features the facility has to offer. Learn about the variety of lesson programs, meet the friendly Meadow Links staff and find out how they can assist you with your golf game. {Want to work on your golf game before hitting the courses? Head to Topgolf in West Chester!}

Carnival of Animals
Sat., March 4 at 1 p.m. at the Cincinnati Art Museum
Celebrate spring (and Mardi Gras!) with a carnival! Madcap presents a brand new addition to its concert series, Camille Saint-Saens’s Carnival of the Animals. Did you ever want to see an elephant ballet? Encounter giant sea creatures in a submarine? Or, run from a dinosaur skeleton that’s come to life? Using mostly the art of shadow puppetry, Madcap brings this popular musical suite to life with vibrant colors and comical characters. Hold on to your seats as one giant puppet escapes the boundaries of the shadow screen and gets up close and personal with the audience! Tickets are $8 for non-members and free for kids under 1 (CAM members get 4 free tickets for each performance).

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
Sat., March 4 from 2-3 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Branch
Kick off National Reading Month by celebrating Dr. Seuss’s Birthday! This party at the Pleasant Ridge Branch is free — though we recommend celebrating all month long via our choose-your-own-seuss-adventure guide.

Open Family Swim at Hubbard Family Swim School
Sun., March 5 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Dust off those swim suits and get in the pool this spring! Head to Hubbard Family Swim School inside the Kids First Sports Center on Sunday, March 5, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The whole family will get to enjoy splashing, swimming, and playtime in the heated, indoor swimming pool! This special swimming event is open to Hubbard members and non-members. Cost is $5 per swimmer, children under 3 are free, with a $15 max per family. Credit/Debit card only. No cash. Non-members will need to fill out a Consent Waiver. Advanced registration is not required. Just show up and check in. {While you’re there, get a Baby Splash schedule and resolve to take your baby to free lessons this spring!}
