The Buckeye Online School for Success is a public, k-12, tuition-free, online school open to all students from the state of Ohio. What does all that mean? First and foremost, BOSS is a public school. All students regardless of race, religion, or financial status are welcome to enroll. BOSS is a k-12 school that service all students from kindergarten through their senior year. BOSS is entirely tuition-free, and provides every student with a computer to use for the duration of their enrollmentl. Finally, BOSS is 100% online. While BOSS follows a normal bell schedule, all students attend their classes right from their computers in their own homes. Classes are live and in real time with a state accredited teacher, while maintaining a great student to teacher ratio.

What makes BOSS unique?

BOSS is a completely online, live, K-12 school. BOSS operates on a traditional bell schedule. Students meet online through a regular class schedule and participate in each class with a live teacher and other students. BOSS is a robust virtual classroom with classroom tools, small classroom sizes, curriculum to meet state standards, and live teachers instructing and answering questions all in an online environment.

What is BOSS’s age/grade range?

BOSS is a K-12 school. While a completely online school, BOSS caters to each grade level to ensure a great learning experience for kindergarteners and high school seniors alike.

What is your enrollment policy? Are there any key dates parents should be aware of?

BOSS is a public Ohio school so our enrollment policy is the same as any other school. The only difference is that BOSSworks hard to maintain a great teacher to student ratio enrollment for certain grade levels may close when limits are reached before closing our enrollment out for the school year.

Do you offer financial assistance?

BOSS does provide a Chromebook to each student for their schooling in addition to providing each family up to $40 per month for internet reimbursement to help offset the cost of schooling.

What are the standard school day hours?

BOSS models our school calendar after a traditional school’s calendar. In addition to 8:15-3:15 Monday through Friday daily schedule, BOSS has summers and typical holidays off.

Does BOSS offer before/after school care? 

BOSS does not offer before and after care services. Students attend school in the comfort of their own home, therefore this type of care is not necessary.

Due to the fact that BOSS educates students all across the state of Ohio, BOSS does not offer organized after-school activities. Many students do, however, organize their own meet-up opportunities for socialization.

What specialty classes / extracurricular activities does BOSS offer (gym, art, language, sports etc.)?

BOSS offers several elective courses taught by our core teachers. We also offer computer science/technology, family consumer science, and financial literacy courses taught by qualified teachers. BOSS is proud to have a National Honor Society charter for qualifying 11th and 12th grade students, and even offers a number of field trips throughout the year throughout the state of Ohio.

How many children attend the school? How many students are in the average classroom?

BOSS’s enrollment is approximately 700 students grades K-12. Most classes average 25-30 students. Even though BOSS operates online, the school takes pride in providing quality instruction through the means of a low student to teacher ratio.

Is there a uniform or dress code?

BOSS does not have a dress code or uniform code; however, many grade levels require students to participate in class with their cameras on, so students must be dressed appropriately throughout their school day.

Does BOSS have a homework policy?

BOSS has the expectation that schoolwork is turned in on time. Students learn best and progress toward their goals if schoolwork is completed by deadlines or within a reasonable amount of time. Teacher feedback is an important step in the learning process, and the most quality feedback is provided when schoolwork is turned in on time.

Does BOSS offer support for students with special needs?

BOSS offers a full continuum of special education services and programs to all students eligible for such services. BOSS implements and supports Inclusion Learning Support Services in an online classroom setting. The Special Education department at BOSS offers services to students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504 Plan, related services, Alternate Assessment, and a Response to Intervention (RTI) program. All students will be assigned an Intervention Specialist who has a certification in Special Education. This person will be their primary source of support and guidance throughout their educational journey. The Intervention Specialist will also be the student’s advocate to ensure that special education services are being fully implemented into their education. He/she will monitor the student’s IEP goals through their class assignments or in a pull out setting in a resource room. Special Education students participate in virtual classes in an inclusion setting (with the general education population).

BOSS also provides the following related services available based on individual needs: Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Vision Therapy, ABA Therapy, Transition Services, Career Readiness, and Resource Teacher.

What are BOSS’s safety policies?

Students attend class from the comfort and safety of their homes. BOSS uses a number of safeguards to help protect students while online and monitors online activity for any potential dangers. Our staff takes student safety seriously and will report as appropriate any concerns.
