Cincinnati Museum Center’s Cave is back!
Cincinnati Museum Center’s replica limestone cave, one of its most popular attractions, is back and better than ever! After a long closure (part of the the Museum Center’s two-year renovation project), the Cave reopened last week. Part of the Museum of Natural History & Science, the Cave is two levels (500 feet!) of twists and turns, and is a Cincy kid favorite.
Cincinnati Museum Center’s Cave is about as realistic as it gets (without actually venturing underground), with waterfalls, pooled water, tight corridors and cave formations like stalagmites and stalactites (ask your elementary-aged kiddo to tell you the difference — I can never remember!). You’ll feel the chill as you dip below ground and follow the flow of water as it carves formations through the underground. It’s an immersive and totally awesome experience.
The Cave features beginner and advanced expeditions, making it perfect for little and big kids. My kids love to bring their headlamps for the expedition. (The “beginner” trail is wheelchair accessible, which truly opens up this experience to all Cincinnati kids.)
Once you’ve emerged from the underground, you can deepen your understanding of all things caves in the above-ground interpretation center. There are detailed visuals, touch screens and live animals, making this area interactive and kid friendly. (The scheduled bat shows are a must!)
Somehow, Cincinnati Museum Center is always able to put you there, with accessible exhibits that truly invite participation. Every exhibit is an experience, and the Cave exemplifies the magic of the Cincinnati Museum Center.
Admission to Cincinnati Museum Center’s Cave is free for members and included with a Discovery Pass for non-members (a Discovery Pass gets you admission to the Museum of Natural History & Science, Cincinnati History Museum and Duke Energy Children’s Museum).
