Q&A with Greene County Parks & Trails:

What makes GC Parks & Trails unique?

Our camps are different every week and everyday is something new and exciting! Most of our camps are held in our more wooded parks and that’s a new experience for a lot of our campers. We get to play in the water a lot which is a great time for those hot summer days. We do some light educating in our camps to keep kids engaged and learning in a different setting than a school building as well!

What activities are offered at Greene County Parks & Trails?

Hikes, games, creeking, building forts, going on quests/missions, assisting in animal care (reptiles & amphibians), crafts, learning about wildlife (tracks, bones, furs), coloring, science experiments, and much more! Camps vary on these activities based on theme.

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?

Roughly 12 campers to 1 counselor, we have additional staffing for field trips and excursions.

How much time do the campers spend outside?

Our camps are held outside, aside from camps that will utilize the “Critter Cove” and animals that live in it for an hour or two throughout the week.

Does Greene County Parks & Trails provide lunch/snacks or do parents need to provide them?

Parents need to send their kids with lunches.

How old are the counselors and how are they trained?

One of our Naturalists has over 25 years’ experience with summer camps, the other has 10 years’ experience. We bring on 3 intermittent staff members (typically college students) and the Naturalists train them prior to camp season. Everyone is CPR and First Aid certified.

What accommodations are made for campers with special needs?

We will bring on an extra staff member or volunteer to aide if a parent says their child needs more 1 on 1 attention or assistance. Modify activities to be more inclusive of sensory or mobility issues. Really assist in anyway the parent requests/child needs to the best of our abilities!

Do I have to be a Greene County Resident to sign my kid up for these camps?

No! While we are a county agency, we offer all our camps and programs to anyone willing to make the drive to our area!
