Hidden Gem: French Park

Being told to stay at home the last few weeks, I’ve had to get creative when it comes to outings with my kids. Playgrounds are closed, but we’re allowed to venture outside for exercise. So with our normal outdoor haunts out of the picture, I’ve opted to take my kids to parks and nature preserves. French Park has been at the top of that list.

French Park is a true hidden gem; a dreamy natural oasis in Amberley Village. You’ve never been to a Cincinnati Park quite like this.

The park is known for its eponymous French House, which was built in the early 1900’s and is a popular venue for weddings and events. The French House stands regally at the end of the park’s driveway, in front of perfectly manicured lawn. Behind the house are rolling hills that beg to be run down, Sound of Music style. Mine got extra crazy and rolled down the hillside, giggling all the way.

There is a paved path leading down to a bubbling creek that’s covered by a canopy of trees, sunshine peeking through in a dreamy way that’s Instagram-level

The park has a 3-mile trail that is perfect for families.

The hike is mostly shaded and the perfect blend of easy, yet interesting, to keep the attention of kids of all ages.

French Park boasts natural features reminiscent of the Hundred Acre Wood from Winnie the Pooh.

There are massive, soulful old trees, perfect for picnicking beneath. There are hollowed out tree trunks filled with small animals and treasures. There’s an abundance of spring in this park, from the daffodils and wildflowers to magnolia trees and cherry trees (currently in full bloom!). It’s dreamy and magical and perfect.

French Park is the perfect place to spend a spring day with your kids; and, at 275-acres, it’s a fantastic place to let your kids run free while practicing safe social distancing.

French Park is located at 3012 Section Road in Amberley Village, 45237. This Cincinnati Park is free to visit and enjoy, and is yet another stunning example of our city’s natural beauty.
