The Lebanon Mason & Monroe Railroad runs plenty of trains for kids this fall. The Bourbon Train is not one of them.
The 21-and-over ride departs from downtown Lebanon, roughly halfway between Cincinnati and Dayton, on Oct. 17, Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. Tickets are $45 per person and include two single-serving bottles of bourbon, a light snack pairing and live music in the bar car. Book the sitter accordingly.
What the Ticket Covers
The bourbon changes by date. The Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 rides feature Willow Run, while the Oct. 31 ride features New Riff and Boone County. Each ticket includes two retail-size, single-serving bottles along with a pairing of meat and mixed nuts.
The railroad describes that pairing as light, and it is fair to take them at their word. Plan on dinner before or after the ride. Downtown Lebanon is within walking distance of the station, and the railroad keeps a list of nearby shops and restaurants on its site.
Anyone who wants more than the included pours can buy additional drinks and snacks in the Queen City Tavern Car. That is also where solo guitarist and vocalist Matthew Edwards will perform throughout the evening, playing songs from the British Invasion era.
Good to Know
Everyone gets carded. All passengers must be at least 21, and the railroad checks ID before departure. That applies to every person in the group, not just whoever booked the tickets.
Oct. 31 is Halloween. If the kids are trick-or-treating that night, check your community’s trick-or-treat hours before booking that date. Sitters may also be harder to find.
Parking is downtown parking. There is no dedicated railroad lot. Two public lots sit one to two blocks from the station, at Main and Mechanic streets (behind City Hall) and at Main and Sycamore streets. Limited street parking is available on South Street, along with two accessible spaces next to the ticket office.
