Neltner’s Farm Fall Festival

There are so many fun things to do this season in Cincinnati, it’s a shame we can’t spend each day of October at a different fall festival. Unfortunately, we have to narrow it down somehow and what I usually do, when it comes to choosing autumn activities, is look for specific aspects of the event that my children will particularly enjoy.

This is why we absolutely love Neltner’s Farm Fall Festival.

Neltner’s family-run farm is located in Melbourne, Kentucky, just off the AA Highway. We live in Northern Kentucky, so it’s pretty convenient for us, but it really is easy to get to from anywhere in the tristate. There are a few things that set this festive farm apart from the others, which are the reasons we make Neltner’s an annual tradition.

My four-year-old loves trains. We are experts when it comes to trains in Cincinnati, so when we learned that Neltner’s has a miniature train display at their fall festival, we knew we had to check it out. The display was created by Applied Imagination (the same people who make the train displays at Krohn Conservatory!), and it’s a really unique touch with its location on the farm. Aside from the charming trains, we love the other activities – horse-drawn carriage ride to the pumpkin patch, pony rides, farm animals, and a tractor-pulled barrel ride, among others.

Neltner’s Farm is also one of the most beautiful properties you’ll visit this season, or any time of year for that matter. They host weddings and other events, so the grounds are immaculate, but still have that authentic farm feel. There is a covered bridge, a wooden bridge over a creek that is covered with blooming flowers and rustic signs and décor all over that make you feel like you’re both on a real farm and inside a magazine feature.

If you’re looking for a charming farm to visit this year that has something for all ages, consider paying Neltner’s Farm a visit. The festival also includes live music on the weekends from 1:30-4:30 pm, homemade food, and a large tent filled with crafts, wine tastings, homemade ice cream, and more.

A native Cincinnatian, Andrea has experienced life in all four corners of this city. After growing up on the west side, she headed north to attend Miami University, then moved east to Hyde Park and now lives in Northern Kentucky with her family.

When she’s not playing trains and doing the “hot dog dance” as a stay-at-home mom to her two toddlers, Andrea is busy writing for Cincinnati (and, ahem, Kentucky!) publications and brainstorming ideas for her next children’s book! With a newfound passion for fitness and overall health, she spends a lot of time at her family gym and loves to play outside.

Andrea worked in education for several years and has a special love for children’s literature. She loves showing her children all our city has to offer and enjoys sharing her finds with other parents. Her favorite spots include the Cincinnati Zoo (although she steers clear of the bird house), her local library and any playground.
